Bio and Links
Bio Photo If you know of any one memorialized here who served aboard the USS Melvin DD-680 in the Pacific Theatre during WW II, please let me know.

I'm a transplanted New Englander. My parents are Paul Oscar Avery(1921-2003) and Betty Wheaton Avery(1925-1992). My mom's and aunt's interest in family history was passed to me. I have been doing family history research for over 25 years, most of which has been in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Maine.

I am retired, and live in The Villages, Florida, and would be happy to find and photograph cemetery stones of your friends or family in the Sumter - Lake - Marion County area.

If you find some pictures or monuments I haven't included, I'd love to hear from you when you post them. And corrections or additions to my postings are welcome. All suggestions are responded to within 48 hours unless I am out of town. If you supply me with additional information, I will always research and double check it before posting it to a memorial. There is simply too much inaccurate information out there.

I have completed projects on all cemeteries in Hawley, Buckland, Colrain, and Charlemont, Massachusetts. And another in Sears Cemetery in Barnstable County. Current projects include the Jenks Family in Rhode Island, the Groton Avery Family, and Shelburne, Franklin Co, Mass cemeteries. If any of my entries connects to your ancestors, let me know.

Memorials I have added in the last 7 days.
Memorials I have added in the last 30 days.
If I have not added any memorials in the last 30 days, I am very likely dead... contact Find A Grave.

Please use the EDIT button on the memorial to initiate correspondence and recommend updates. I am no longer able to respond to emails that do not provide quick and easy access to the memorial in question. Also, if your e-mail is not provided on your profile page, I won't be able to respond to you if a response is needed. The public messages are not appropriate for back and forth discussion. And, if you have no email, I will not process edits until you provide source data.

There are so many "orphan" memorials here on Find-A-Grave, many of which have been posted en masse and then forgotten. So many need identification and linking so we know who they were! After posting a memorial, please take the time to research, identify, and link the memorial properly..... it will go along way toward further establishing the credibility of this site.

Regarding transfers outside guidelines..... I will consider transfer to those who have a proven track record of collaboration on FindAGrave.

Hattie Avery Ballow
I added the note you sent to Hattie Avery Ballow's page.
I did a bit of checking. I found funeral notices for Hattie, George and Gertrude Ballow.
George and Gertrude were also buried in Lincoln Memorial Cemetery.
I found the picture I took of Hattie's grave a long time ago. It says on her gravestone= "Wife of G.W. Ballow". There is a large upright gravestone by Hattie's smaller headstone that has in very large letters "BALLOW". There are no other stones in that Lot. My first guess would be that when Hattie died George bought a grave Lot for the both of them so later down the road when George died he would then be buried next to Hattie. The years went by and George remarried and my next guess is that they made arrangements for him to be buried by Gertrude when George died.
Also, George and Gertrude might even be buried by Hattie and they just don't have any headstones but then again they might be buried somewhere else in the cemetery.
Hattie's stone says Hattie H. on it and I have to assume that the H. is for her middle name whatever that might be.
I actually found two funeral notices for Hattie. I can email them if you want them.
The pics I took of Hattie's stone were just poor quality pics for the info off the stones to add people to Find A Grave. If you wanted pics of her grave I would need to get better pictures because the ones I have look pretty bad because as I said I did not get the pictures at the time I took them for quality, just for the info on the stones. I go up to the cemetery a lot. Right now rainy season has started and it is supposed to rain non stop for the next week. It will end sooner or later though.

RE: Gershom Bulkley
Hi Kevin,

Hope you made it well through Matthew. I never lost electricity, but I haven't seen this amount of darkness since Francis-Jean in 2004. Sounds of generators everywhere. The only lights are from inside houses, including mine, my side of the street.

The earlier memorial for Gershom Bulkeley been deleted by Marie.

RE: Samuel Reed Photo Request.
I saw your request was there for a few years. So just thought I would mention there is definitely a headstone. Hopefully someone will get one soon.

RE: Gershom Bulkley
Actually, I am going to transfer the Gershom Bulkeley duplicate back to Marie and ask her to delete it, which will cure the Hannah (Raymond) Avery link problem. I hate merging, which leaves a remaining double (merged) link for the same person. Not a very clean way of doing business.

Hannah (Raymond) Avery etal
Thanks for the quick action on my auto corrections. Yes, the purpose is to get the 2007 memorial I maintain (created by Marie) for Rev. Gershom Bulkeley deleted in favor of the one erected in 2011 by Steve Goodrich, who is much closer in relation to the interrelated Bulkley-Goodrich-Treat families than me.
