I first discovered this site when I was researching descendants through one of the proven "royalty" lines. I was interested in finding where some of these individuals were buried and was hoping to visit England in the near future. |
My England trip has not panned out yet, but I did discover that I liked this site due to the fact that an individual could be personalized by adding photos, taking pictures of headstones, and adding bios. I felt this somehow draws you in closer to the person. I love the fact that you can leave notes also.
I have told everyone that I know about this site and I and some friends have been doing all we can to document some of our local cemeteries. We have completed our local cemeteries and have expanded into some of our surrounding communities. We have met some very nice people due to this project. We also post all of the local obits to FAG if the obit states which cemetery they are located in.
We also volunteer to put out flags on Memorial Day and Veteran's Day. It only takes a few hours, and, let's face it, some of these guys can use the help. They are always so grateful, and the ceremonies are always beautiful.
I would also like to thank the volunteers who take time to take pictures of headstones for me at cemeteries that I will probably never get to see. Recently, I found where one of my fathers relatives was buried, and a volunteer took a picture of the grave. I do appreciate each and every one of you!
I encourage everyone to adopt a cemetery, scour the local papers for obits, and tell all their friends and neighbors about this site. Everyone benefits!

Thank you so much for posting all the extra details on Augustus Bart Dorrell. The bio. portion at the end was especially interesting--how did you manage to find that info.?
I have been trying to track the various members of that family for years. Needless to say, he wasn't easy to locate since he had moved to Calif. and most stayed in Mich. or Ohio. I'm a little puzzled by the mention of brother John in the obit. Census shows James and others but I have not seen John listed before.

Thank you for a fabulous write-up for my sister's relative including photos of where he is buried. I really appreciated the detailed inclusion of information from the CA Death Index, 1910 US Federal Census Record and 1930 US Federal Census Record and WWI Draft Card and his wives.
Happy New Year!

I don't know the proper etiquette, but, I'd like to make a request.
I am looking for the resting place of a Peter Thiessen. He died in 19 Oct 1920 and from what I have been able to gather, he was buried in Union Cemetery.
I know his son, Peter F. Thiessen is there, too. That is how I found you - by looking up Peter F. on findagrave.
Please let me know if you would like additional info or if you can point me in the right direction if I have erred in this request.
Hi, I wonder if you are related to the Ary Prather Bennett family as I am trying to locate parents of Marquis Fielding Bennett's wife Sarah Ann Schwartz of Pennsylvania. I have hit a brick wall on her! CindyLee

Thank you Diana for the quick. Our Uncle Merv had a brother, Vincent Clark Porter b1922 d2011 (he's my husband's father). Vince served with the U.S. Navy at around the same timeframe as Merv, so if you stumble across a news clip for him we'd love to see it! Thank you for all you do at F-A-Grave. Enjoy your day!

Hello... I just saw that you added a photo to Merv's memorial. Are you related to my husband's Uncle Merv or Aunt Betty? Thank you for the photo :)))

THANK YOU so much for posting this. I could not find a lot about this man and he was my grandfathers brother. In the obit it says two brothers are in Ohio, but my grandfather, A.H. Irwin lived in Colfax, Iowa.
After reading your bio--sure you are not a relative but thought I would ask. I never knew this man was married and I did not know he had a daughter.
THANK YOU AGAIN!!
