Hi all, |
Family history and genealogy are two of my passions. I'm hoping to connect with the descendents of my ancestors and relatives.
I do this for love of family, and especially to honor my grandmothers. I was very close to both of them. It was their own love of family and the tales they had to tell that have inspired my ambitions.
Any research or photo that I've posted at Find-A-Grave may be used for any non-commercial purpose (family trees, personal use, etc.). Please don't forget to give me credit though if you do decide to re-post my research data or photos elsewhere on the internet. I would truly appreciate being acknowledged for all the time and work I've contributed.
I'm disabled and don't travel easily, so any help will be greatly appreciated!
MANY THANKS IN ADVANCE!
in southern CA

Would you please share the source of your information for Sharon Elizabeth Johnson? I have not been able to find information on Elizabeth Allen's maiden name (or Sharon as her given name). Thank you!

Thank you. I have still not located Georgiana. I did find this which might be of interest: > Historical Obituaries Prior 2015 beginning with “S”

> Siselburger, Anna d. 1 Apr 1872 70 yrs. Havenner Vault Sisselburger. In this city, on Monday, April 1st, after a brief illness, Anna Sisselburger, aged 70. The deceased was the daughter of Major Burton Benton, a distinguished officer in the War of 1812. Her remains will be taken to Salem, N.J. for interment.
I do know that Capt. Thomas N. Orton died in Charleston S. C. on Sept 8, 1854. This was the date of the "Great Charleston Hurricane" with 26 deaths. If you look carefully at the picture of his tombstone you can see he died in 1854 (not 1856) and was born in 1827.
Thank you for any help you can give. K

Dear Ms McSweeney:
Thank you for your response to my question about Georgiana Orton. I can find no trace of this person after the 1850 Pennsylvania Census and a brief reference to her in a grandmother Orton’s (1884) will where she is referred to as the daughter of “my son Thomas”. Can you tell me what happened to her?
I also have newspaper copy from The San Francisco Call of 1906 which indicates that a Mrs. Sarah Bissell, formerly Miss Sarah A. Benton of Salem N.J. with a sic correction to Penton. This article speaks of Sarah’s daughter identified as the wife of Tallmadge Van Rensselaer and her son as Thomas Orton from Cape Charles VA I believe the Rensselaer wife would be Minnie?

I'm connected to George and Comfort Taylor, and am curious where you got the information about them. It's extremely helpful, and I'd like to know your sources. Thanks!!

|To Whom Do We Belong||RE: Selden cousin|
I forgot to add this fact.
My Jonathan Selden, 1711-1776 married Mercy Ingram. Two of their children, Jonathan Selden, 1740-1808, married Mehitable Cady, 1740-1825 and Mercy Selden, 1733-1790, married Eliphalet Green, 1731-1777. So I have two different Selden lines.
Are you confused now. lol There is more but it's much later. Cousin Diane
