Bio and Links
Bio Photo I live in Northern Indiana and am very interested in the Civil War. One of my hobbies is to visit the graves of Indiana Civil War Soldiers. To date my dad and I have visited over 1,870 cemeteries and have found the gravesites of over 36,400 Indiana Soldiers, as well as some 8,400 soldiers from states other than Indiana. We have also located the gravesites of over 1,700 Confederate soldiers buried in the Hoosier state. I am also trying to find the gravesites of all of Indiana's Civil War Colonels. I am also interested in the 8th Indiana Infantry, Company I, and the 12th Indiana Infantry. I am also looking for every Chaplain that served in an Indiana Regiment in the Civil War. If you know of any gravesites you think I may have missed, or have some interesting information, don't hesitate to contact me. I am also working on a book about Indiana's soldiers that died during the Civil War. Any help would be appreciated. Also, if you are looking for a Hoosier that served in the civil war send me an e-mail and I'll see if I can help in any way. Currently, I'm also trying to locate every Civil War veteran in Kosciusko County, Indiana, and upload them to Find-A-Grave. I am also a Christian, and look forward to life after the grave. Thanks.

Hello Eric - I saw you requested the gravesite photo for Jacob Cunningham. It was missing half the plot location. I sent the complete one in to edit so either of the 2 volunteers who go there every week (JP Rayder & Tom) will be able to find it.

RE: Hi!
My great-great-great grandfather was Martin Campbell, Jr. (1836-1918). He enlisted as a Sergeant with the Union Army on Aug. 15, 1863, Company M, 6th Cavalry Regiment. He received a disability discharge on March 27, 1865. He is listed in the American Civil War Soldiers Archives. The Civil War started in 1861 and ended in 1865.

Can you confirm or have info. that his grave site is located in Bowling Green Cemetery, Clay County, Indiana. I am in the area and would like to visit.
Thanks very much.

Indiana Civil War Soldiers
Hi Eric! I ran across your memorial for Col. Warner Lowder Vestal, and have sent edits to add his parents - Jabin Vestal and Charity Lowder Vestal (Jabin is the brother to my 3rd great grandmother - Ann Vestal Atkinson).

Co. Vestal married Frances S. Young in Washington DC on 11 November 1865. ( Source: "District of Columbia Marriages, 1811-1950," index and images, FamilySearch ( : accessed 05 Oct 2014), Warner S Vestal and Franc S. Young, 11 Nov 1865; citing District of Columbia, United States, Records Office, Washington D.C.; FHL microfilm 2079252.)

I've not proven, but I suspect his wife Frances is findagrave memorial #125486980. Her birth and death dates are right, but middle initials of both are wrong though.

I have found some more biographical text for Warner on these links:

and Warner & Frances' deaths are recorded in California death records on this link (page 496):,228687801

Anyway, I also have some relatives who were in the Civil War.

Larkin Bicknell, memorial # 2859427.

Alonzo Greeson, died from battle wounds. He is now interred in the Chattanooga National Cemetery (#71213162) but local library records said there was a local cemetery memorial. I have searched the cemetery for this local memorial and am unable to locate it now (memorial # 79485213).

My 2nd great grandfather - Enos Allen, memorial# 36657558.

and Thomas Asbury Gossett, brother of my 2nd great grandmother, Mary Elizabeth Gossett Turley, a POW survivor of Andersonville Prison who ultimately died from his injuries and disease contracted during his incarceration at Andersonville. (Memorial# 135280871). I found that Thomas wrote of his time as a prisoner of war. The document is posted in Based on this document, I have sent an email to findagrave to see if Thomas Asbury Gossett's memorial will qualify to classify as a 'famous' memorial and am awaiting reply.

I have a small virtual cemetery for civil war soldiers you can check to see if there is anymore you could add to your virtual cemeteries.

If you have time, I would appreciate virtual flowers left on my Revolutionary War ancestor - William Hoit (memorial # 68922225) who was killed in battle at Fort Ticonderoga, and his son Benjamin (memorial # 120139805) who witnessed his father being shot. Thank you.
