Prompted by my father to personally find all family cemeteries in the Monroe Co., TN, area, I learned how addictive "walking on the ground your ancestors walked on" is! An awakening was finding the horrific conditions some cemeteries are in, including those managed by TVA. Finding the Find-a-Grave website will enable me to more readily show the world what can happen when no one cares. I am a UT graduate with 3 grown children. Recently, I became aware of 3 African American Cemeteries in Lonsdale - the middle of the city of Knoxville, TN. Research done by Robert McGinnis proved it to encompass 24 acres, most of which became a dumping ground, was overgrown, and was a location for unspeakable criminal activity. Sheriff J. J. Jones has undertaken the clearing of the worst - Southern Chain and Longview. I am attempting to capture every stone possible and preserve the memories of these special people before they again become victims and disappear. Some photos are very bad, and I apologize. Due to the terrain conditions, I was very limited. My research priorities are Moser, Nichols, Nuchols, Davis, Cook, Clemens, Hurst, and the families involved in the Howard-McGhee-Jones Feud in TN.

Another unknown cemetery
Hi, Tommie, I am puzzled by another unknown cemetery. A death record for Trula Cansler, died Feb 18, 1935, states burial in "Methodist Cemetery". She lived on Western Ave. Do you have a guess which cemetery that would be? Thanks, Tommy

Not really work. I like working puzzles and connecting people is like working puzzles. It's a hobby. Thanks for the feedback. Tommy

Genealogy - Waters family

Hi, Tommie,

I've seen your name on lots of the same sites I"m on, and I'm wondering if we're related. My I'm also researching Cook and Davis lines in East Tennessee.

RE: Southern Chain, Longview, Crestview
Thanks for the heads up. My sister goes with me, and with it being so close I immediately latched onto it. The first time I looked at it I could not see the whole cemetery, so thanks for the list of things to bring. I like to go in the morning or early afternoon, so hopefully I can help with pictures. YOU did a really good job of submitting names!

The Odd Fellow Cemetery isn't much better, as well as the others connected over by it. Bethel is cared for, but still, story in of itself.

Where is Crestview? Is that the area that has the two pillars without a sign right off of Keith Ave. Is it to the east of Longview?

RE: Luke Matlock
The only thing I have to go by is his death record which states burial in "New Samaritan". I'm not familiar with local cemeteries but googling found nothing to help. The information in the link you sent sounds promising. I think I'll create a memorial for him in Odd Fellows and put a note of explanation in the memorial. THANKS!!! Tommy Wood

Southern Chain and Longview Cemeteries
It is good to see you here! I have been trying to find the name of the cemetery on Keith Ave and just really stricken by the sad shape the cemetery is in. Thank you for working so hard. The road around the west and north side have been repaved and I can tell that someone got them to start getting brush and garbage out. I think I saw a couch there in the way back. I will be trying to get pictures when I have time.

RE: Nancy Goff Blankenship
I do not find any indication that nancy and Charles were Jewish. However, I have not done extensive research on that particular branch of the Blankenship family.

We do have Katherine's father as Jacob Moser and her mother as Jane Parker. Is this the same as your grandfather, Jacob Moser? If so, we would like to know more about your line of the family. Perhaps Jacob had another wife who was your grandmother. Or perhaps you are referring to another Jacob Moser. Anyway we are interested in communicating with you.
Thanks for your inquiry.
