Prompted by my father to personally find all family cemeteries in the Monroe Co., TN, area, I learned how addictive "walking on the ground your ancestors walked on" is! An awakening was finding the horrific conditions some cemeteries are in, including those managed by TVA. Finding the Find-a-Grave website will enable me to more readily show the world what can happen when no one cares. I am a UT graduate with 3 grown children. Recently, I became aware of 3 African American Cemeteries in Lonsdale - the middle of the city of Knoxville, TN. Research done by Robert McGinnis proved it to encompass 24 acres, most of which became a dumping ground, was overgrown, and was a location for unspeakable criminal activity. Sheriff J. J. Jones has undertaken the clearing of the worst - Southern Chain and Longview. I am attempting to capture every stone possible and preserve the memories of these special people before they again become victims and disappear. Some photos are very bad, and I apologize. Due to the terrain conditions, I was very limited. My research priorities are Moser, Nichols, Nuchols, Davis, Cook, Clemens, Hurst, and the families involved in the Howard-McGhee-Jones Feud in TN.

RE: Margaret Russell
No, she is not a relative at all. I just have some books that are Russell Surname and she happened to be in it with her burial. When I saw that you had the 9 and they said it was a 0, I could see why you had a 9. Nobody could have told them apart until the trusty magnifying glass was used and then I could see it then and only then. Glad to have helped though. Thanks for the offer of the transfer but I am not a relative or at lease I don't think I am. Who knows though. I may be kin to every single Russell in the world LOL.

Thank you for taking heartening interest in what you can preserve of the forgotten in the 24 acres. It does my heart good.

RE: Nichols
I don't have as much information on the Nichols' line as my sister. She has done a lot of research on Ancestry for me. I do know that my Great Grandparents are Jefferson Davis Nichols & Elizabeth Prince Nichols from Habersham Co. GA. Jefferson Davis Nichols had a twin brother. Their Father and Mother (my Great Great Grandparents) were Solomon Nichols & Lucinda Cross Nichols. My Grandfather was Henry Pierce Nichols & my Grandmother was Minnie Stephens Nichols. My father was Ralph Curtis Nichols. He was married twice and had a son Harold Gene Nichols who had a son named Mike Nichols. I wonder if this is the neighbor you are referring to.
How old would that Mike Nichols be, do you know?
Thank you for your input. Linda Nichols-Mills

Wrong flower
Hello. You sent the following:
Charles Carson Byrd
Good morning, I discovered that the memorial you submitted a "Flower" and message for was the wrong Charles Carson Byrd, 1840-1933, and husband of Eliza. Charlie is in another Byrd Cemetery in Mitchell Co, off of Pigeon Roost RD. There is a photograph of their double stone at memorial #50922147. Tommie Nichols, Powell

RE: Minnie Jane Nichols
I appreciate the offer. You are doing a wonderful job. I work all the time and don't have much time to spare. You didn't answer about being related to my Nichols line, are you? Linda

Dear Mr. Nichols,
Thank you so much for your work preserving and exploring ancestry and graves. It's your work that helped us find more about my grandaddy, Earl Samuel Fields, whose mother was Prudie Moser. We have some photos of Earl and his sister, Irene and would happily share them with you. We don't have any of Herbert or Fred.
Also, my mom learned about Earl's son by happenstance, when she was an adult. She had NEVER known about him. We are eager to learn more. She knows nothing about him except that apparently his name was Earl also.
