I was born in the 40's to Edward Truie Smith & Cora Lee Byrd in Chattanooga, Tennessee where my father worked during the World War II. My Roots are from Alabama, (Sand Mountain) Dekalb County on my father side, & Rome Georgia, Floyd County on my mother's side of the family. I'm researching the names Smith, Dalrymple, Jolly and Hall. Most of these folks are from Alabama. Also researching the Georgia ancestors Byrd, Plemons, Johnson, Rampy, Abney.|
During the 50's my parents moved to Michigan and that is where I make my home. My heart and soul will always be on Sand Mountain. You can take the girl out of the country, but you can't take the country out of the girl. So every chance I get I head for the hills and do so enjoy searching for my ancestors when I'm there.
If I have one for any of your loved ones please let me know if you would like ownership transfered or corrections made.

I have a question regarding this memorial. Did you actually see the grave or did you get the information from a previously done survey of the cemetery?
There are many many people who assume this is the grave of Clark Terrell White. (With the G T actually being a C T). This man's birth and death date has been attributed to Clark.
His wife and children are buried in Marshall County Alabama. I just can't get my head to accept that he ended up buried in DeKalb.
Any light you can shed on your G T White would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for adding Grady B Smith, he was my grandpa

I've emailed to you a copy of the 1870 census and
information from the Alabama death records index.

Hi Maureen: Thomas is also my 4th through his daughter Lucy Byrd McCleskey (McCluskey. The photo on the memorial was emailed to me by a volunteer, but the older photo that shows the inscriptions was taken many years before and shared with the stipulation that I may not share it. It was believe that the John Bird listed might be the father, BUT nothing else really could be read so just don't know. The older photo was on my old computer and I don't know that I even have it any more. Has anyone in your family tested DNA it would be wonderful to have the Byrd male y-dna if you have brothers or male Byrd cousins. My email address is on my profile page

Sorry no, I do not do Ancestry.com. Because 1/2 of my family is English (my mother was born there)I have posted my tree and belong to a UK site called genesreunited.com. I recently found pictures of Joseph and Saphrona Kay Jolley and have posted them at their findagrave memorials. Thanks again,
Denise Rains Willis

Thanks so much for all of the contributions to this site. We are related through Joseph and Saphrona Kay Jolley. I have been able to fill in quite a bit of my extensive family tree with the information you have posted and have enjoyed seeing the pictures of relatives you have included.
