I'm also looking for volunteers to help add names to Belmont County cemeteries.

My brother "Skip" and I enjoy genealogy. He's my expert regarding Belmont county, OH. We both take photos of tombstones, especially of family members. Some of the surnames are Bain, Bane, Blaine, Budd, Curtis, Giffen, Giffin, Griffith, Haines, Hepburn, Hinkle, Keyser, Long, Milligan, Pond, Spears, Shahan, and Terrill.

I started using the FAG app on my iPhone to photograph tombstones and simultaneously record their gps location. It's so easy. I enjoy using it.

UPDATE: Skip started a GIFFEN DNA Group.

In addition to Belmont county, OH, we explore Ohio and Brooke counties in WV. I travel between Belmont Co and Columbus, OH. So, I make a few stops along the way, such as Cambridge or Zanesville.

I look for family tombstones across the country and try to link them back to Belmont Co., OH, Ohio Co., WV, and PA.

I have several GIFFEN / GIFFIN family trees at There's my Giffen family which started with Robert and Mary (Bane) Giffen. Plus a family tree for the Andrew Giffin family. I recently started a Simon Giffin tree.

My tree name is "Terry Magyar"

More recently, I've added family trees for Giffens/Giffins in the following Ohio counties; Athens, Butler, Coshocton, Licking, Miami & Hamilton, and Ross County. Many of these Scotch-Irish lines can be followed back to the late 1700s, in Penn.

I presently live in Franklin Co., OH, but grew up in Belmont Co., OH.

Please contact me (use the EDIT function) if need an item corrected of if you have additional information regarding any of the these families.

I highly recommend the Cumberland Trail Genealogical Society's book "Your Guide to Belmont Co. Cemeteries". ($20 + shipping)

RE: Catherine A Giffin
You're welcome. That photo is from last year where the leaves made it very hard to find stones. However, I went last weekend before the leaves had fallen and I did not find any more stones. Last year's photo was brighter that the one I took last weekend.

RE: helping find a grave
Terry, Since you (and others; saw on GoClub) are adding from Esther Weygandt's book, I would need to know what pages have been done OR what pages need to be done. I also have the Somerton book (hope you remember what one that is; I have CRS), but I question the copyright on that one unless we could get the author's permission. I'll go to GoClub and see if there is more info. on there as to what needs to be added.

I would like to join your club
Hi Terry, I would like to join your club. I have taken a lot of photos in the Saint Clairsville Union Cemetery & have added some memorials of stones that don't have a memorial for them yet. Carla :)

Just wanted to ask about Charles D. Rambo (#44654134) resting place at Woodlawn Cem. Zanesville, Ohio. Is his wife Luncinda buried beside him?

Thank You very much...Tom

RE: Additional memorials.
Well, if I can help, just let me know. Maybe I could go thru. the obituary book I have for Belmont Co. and if there is a cemetery mentioned, add the person to it? I also have the Bellaire death records books.

RE: Upper Wegee Cemetery
Hi Terry, I was wondering when I saw your's or Skip's post on the Belmont Co. site, huh, Goclub abt. wanting some cemetery records added. I have both the Weygandt book and the Mains readings. I did see some mention of the Mains on here so it looks like you have done some.

Alexander Cemetery
Hello, Terry. I was surprised and very happy to see your photo of this cemetery! I attempted to find it two years ago while visiting Ohio from New Jersey but my GPS failed me (or visa versa). My great-great grandparents are buried there: Isaac Lincoln Fry (1861 - 1909) and Margaret Elizabeth "Maggie" Curley Fry (pre-dating curly-fries, probably). I am wondering if you have posted photos of all of the headstones that are legible? I noticed a few from around 1926 that are in very good condition, so I am hoping that at least Maggie's is there somewhere. Thank you for everything you do!!!
