Cemeteries provide me with an instant state of serenity. They are wonderful places to go and clear my head, as well as spark my imagination as I wonder about all of the people buried there. They are historical, I always learn something new in a cemetery.
I just read several complaints on another website about findagrave.com. Some people claim that it is morbid and hurtful to the surviving families to take photos of their loved ones' graves. I'm sorry, but I have to respectfully disagree. It is a tribute to those people that have passed on. I hope they come to understand this eventually. Everyone deserves to be remembered, even if it's with the assistance of modern technology and the internet. It's also a fantastic tool for people tracing their family roots.
I have been taking photos of graves for quite some time and have never had one single complaint directed to me yet. I certainly hope I never do, as I feel I'm doing something good, with the intention to honor, not exploit, the deceased. | |
