THE RECORDING OF A CEMETERY
BY THELMA GREENE REAGAN

Today we walked where others walked
On a lonely, windswept hill;
Today we talked where others cried
For loved ones whose lives are stilled.

Today our hearts were touched
By graves of tiny babies;
Snatched from the arms of loving kin,
In the heartbreak of the ages.

Today we saw where the grandparents lay
In the last sleep of their time;
Lying under the trees and clouds -
Their beds kissed by the sun and wind.

Today we wondered about an unmarked spot;
Who lies beneath this hollowed ground?
Was it a babe, child, young or old?
No indication could be found.

Today we saw where Mom and Dad lay.
We had been here once before
On a day we'd all like to forget,
But will remember forever more.

Today we recorded for kith and kin
The graves of ancestors past;
To be preserved for generations hence,
A record we hope will last.

Cherish it, my friend; preserve it, my friend,
For stones sometimes crumble to dust
And generations of folks yet to come
Will be grateful for your trust.

Maybe you want to help me solve a "mystery"
Hi Debbie,

This has nothing really to do with Find A Grave but I thought you might want to help me with something. Or maybe you can point me in a direction I haven't considered.

I've been trying to find my 2nd great grndmother Rebecca J "Bessie" Baldwin on the 1880 census with no luck. She was born April 27, 1874, probably in Kenton County, KY and was probably living either in Kenton County or Hamilton County, OH.

Bessie's father William died a few weeks before she was born and Sarah remarried to an Edward Jones, April 30, 1877, in Covington.

I assume she would be married to Edward on the 1880 census but I haven't been able to find them,

Sarah Cathryn (sometimes called Katie) was born March 17, 1855 in Bromley.

She married Peter W. Wilson as her third husband November 10, 1891 in Hamilton County, Ohio.

Any advice on where to look? Care to work your magic? :D

I've looked for years...

Thanks for any help you can provide.

---Brian

Charles
Charles Sharp Fowler was first married to a Mrs. Susan Bentley (maiden name unknown) on Jan. 5, 1882 in Maysville, Kentucky. Their daughter Grace was born August 1883 and I believe Elmer to be their son. He married my gg grandmother's sister Jacova Myers in about 1892. Most list her as Cora but she was Aunt Cova to my mother and her siblings. Grace married Wesley Edgar Henson in Dec. 1903. After Charles married Aunt Cova, Elmer is listed as a nephew in the census but his death certificate says son. Elmer married Mattie Becraft by whom he had a daughter named Elizabeth. After Elmer's death, Mattie married another relative of my my great uncle George Cundiff. Uncle George and Aunt Mattie had a daughter named Opal Jaunita Cundiff. Opal died in 2000 and was married to Lawrence Leo Knepfle and James Hayes Long (not too sure about this marriage but she did have 2 children named Long and she had 5 named Knepfle. Thank you so much for posting the photos of the gravestones. I find this branch of my family one of the more interesting.

Leonard R. Thompson #134337049
Hi, Debbie,
I can't find the wife of Leonard R. Thompson (Pearl Elizabeth, d. 19 Dec 1981) Do you think she might be buried alongside/near Leonard and, like him, has no stone?

Thanks for all you're doing. I know that's a lot of time-consuming work.
