Bio Photo Remember the Past ~ Imagine the Future

Volunteer: by definition means "a person who performs a service willingly and without pay." That is what its all about here on Find A Grave; volunteers giving freely of their time and resources. Yes, some have more time than others; more time to add more names, find more info and do more research, but that does not diminish the importance of the contributor who only has time to add just basic names. Sometimes its the smallest clue that brings the biggest results.

PLEASE try to remember because we are dedicated "Gravers" we have stomped through mud puddles, walked for miles, swatted mosquitoes, got stung by fire ants, stood out in 105 degree summer sun and/or froze our rear off on a cold & frosty winter morning - all to get that perfect photo (at our time & expense) others have requested from some remote cemetery out in the "boonies". So please, instead of complaining to us that we misspelled your loved ones name on the memorial pg we made for them (we are human, we all make mistakes, and we are more than happy to correct our typos), please consider how wonderful it would be for us to hear an occasional "thank you for your efforts."

Me, I volunteer in any area where I have the resource material to do so. I volunteer for Find A Grave in numerous counties. I volunteered previously for the Texas Tombstone Transcription Project. I also volunteer in the TXGenWeb Project. I do volunteer look-ups from resource material that I own on assorted Texas counties, however the primary counties are: Angelina, Llano, Mason, Milam & Williamson counties. My main county of (personal) interest is my birth county of Llano. If anyone has questions pertaining to Angelina Co cemeteries, or the info you've found listed about them here on Find A Grave, you may contact me. There may be cemeteries listed from time to time as being here in Angelina Co that actually are not here. Others may have been duplicated under "aka" names. And others not yet posted.
NOTICE: I HAVE CEASED LINKING TO "UNKNOWN" BURIALS, please do NOT ask me to link to them. You cannot "find a grave" if you don't know where its at.

* NOTE: Per the Find A Grave guidelines, I do not post photos which I did not take, or have personal ownership of, or permission to use - that means newspaper obit photos (I've only posted a few obit photos in the past but have ceased doing so completely). IF I post an obit photo in the future it means I knew the person or family.(updated Oct 2012)

About Find A Grave: if you are new to Find A Grave (1) PLEASE read the FAQ section BEFORE you start asking for transfers or sending suggestions, corrections, additions, comments, etc. And when you do send your comments/requests (2) PLEASE use the "edit" tab found on each memorial pg to send your msg. Use of the edit tab takes us straight to the name in question and cuts down on mistakes. And (3) Unless I know you and know your work, PLEASE state the source (or reason) for the change/addition in the info (death certificate, obit, census, family Bible, personal knowledge, etc) I know I sometimes forget to add these to my SAC's, so if you need to know where I got my info, just ask me (for me, most will be from TXDC's or the census)

ABOUT MY PERSONAL FAMILY PHOTOS: you DO NOT have permission to take/use any of my personal family photos, period! (unless I personally tell you its ok) If you have interest in any of my personal family lines, email me, tell me who you are and what your interest in my family names is.

ABOUT THE TOMBSTONE PHOTOS I ADD: if they are your family and you wish to add them to your family trees, yes you may do so, BUT remember to give credit where credit is due and note that you found it on Find A Grave "courtesy of Deb in Angelina Co". On the other hand, you DO NOT have permission to take & re-post my photos from other websites, or those here on Find A Grave, under your name as if you were the photographer. Whether good, bad, old, or new, I recognize my own photos. It's not about "owning", it's about giving another person the credit for the effort they went to, to gather & post data for the benefit of those who are searching for family. Thank you!

Family names of personal interest to me are too many to list, but my main line of research interests are in surnames: Alvis, Baugh, Collins, Coursey, Leslie, Hammond, Mankins, Moore, Mott, Murphy, Roberts, Secrest, Sharp, and numerous names associated with those families. The Honey Creek Cemetery (aka Coursey Cemetery by the old timers) in Llano Co is the resting place for many of my direct family lines. Others are in Bell and Williamson counties.

Other surnames of interest via marital lines are: Camp, Broomfield, Gallion, Kendrick, Keith, Pitts, Martin, Sunday, Tull/Tullos and those associated with them. If you have family history from any of these similar family lines feel free to contact me.

RE: #124839814 Melvyn Thomas Lane
I'll attempt to delete and unlink. Thank you. Thomas' surviving sisters are currently in Branson where I live and I will be seeing more of them this week. Thomas and I were very close as there was only 2 years difference in our ages and our mothers were close sisters. Thanks for replying. SW

I am writing to ask if you would release the page of Melvyn Thomas Lane to me. I am Thomas' first cousin, Steven White and would like to have maintenance control of his page. I created a duplicate name before I realized you had already created a page from the funeral announcement. The page I created is #13619658. I have many photos and additional bio yet to add. Thank You. SW

Hi Deb, thank you for your hard work on your memorials I can tell you care about the information that is on them. I am only related to Sarah thru her first marriage to my very distant cousin. I only researched her to find what happened to her after my distant first cousin was murdered leaving her a very young mother with 2 young children. I found her first on the 1870 census in Williams Co, TX living with my grt grt grt grndfather. I cannot tell you for sure what would be the right birth year to show for her. I have seen her listed born in 1840 and 1847. And considering that her first child with my distant cousin was born in 1864, I have to come to the conclusion that somehow her birth year on her headstone must be wrong. Just so you know I don't mean to try to pressure you to change anything, just wanted to draw that to your attention. I really am fine with whatever you think is right. Thank you for all you do at Find A Grave - have fun grave hunting. Thanks Gwen

Katherine G Brantley

I appreciate your efforts in posting info on my husband's paternal grandmother. She was married to Floyd L Brantley Sr. who passed in Feb 1980, but they were divorced in the mid 1930's. There were 4 children from this union. Benford Brantley, Willeen Brantley Dickerson, Charles L Brantley and Floyd L Brantley, Jr.
Floyd Sr, Benford and Charles Lee are all buried there nearby. Ironically, Benford worked for the city of Nacogdoches many years as a fireman, water department and for many years was in charge of the upkeep and maintenance of Sunset cemetery. Charles L Brantley was killed on Friday, November 13, 1942 at the naval battle of Savo Island off Guadalcanal. This is the same battle that the 5 Sullivan brothers all perished on the USS Juneau. The only surviving child of Katherine G Brantley is Floyd Jr. He was born in 1925 and survived WWII and Korea to live at almost 89 years old being very active in retirement in Conway, AR Floyd, my father-in-law still walk, bicycles and drives on road trips back to his native Texas as often as his wife, Mary Pearson Brantley will allow, I will provide more dates and more information that you may need

RE: Amand M Pyburn #45678582
Deb, Thanks the Bible records are incorrect. She is widowed on 1860 Census. The notes were done by someone that assumed William Washington was buried next to her, not realizing he had died in Jackson Parish. The Pyburn's moved from Jackson Parish to Freestone County, Texas between 1880 and 1890. The 1900 census her children are all in Freestone County. She died there in Angelina county after crossing the Sabine River. None of them stayed in Angelina County.

Thanks for you help!

I will be linking siblings to her on Finda Grave. I do not want the memorial transferred to me.

I am a Stovall descendent, we married into the Pyburn family.

Amand M Pyburn #45678582
Deb, have copy of family Bible she married Washington William Pyburn, bibe indicates he is buried in Ryan Chapel Cemetery. Was wondering do you have a list of interments. Amanda's maiden name is Carroll. They had left Jackson Parish, Louisiana bound for Freestone County where there children went to. any information would be appreciated. William died around 1870, I can't locate her on a census 1870 or 1880 in Angelina county.

Thank you for the use of the headstone photo on my site in Ancestry.....I agree with you regarding reposting, I have found photos that I am almost positive were copies of one I posted (after receiving permission from the owner) that did not give the credit to the owner and it upsets me. I now post a notice saying not to repost without giving credit.

Thank you for all of your work, it is appreciated
