Bio and Links
Bio Photo I am an amature genealogiest and enjoy the hobby. I have been doing this since I was 17 while in high school when an English teacher had us do a family tree. First "A" I got in her class. Due to my type of work, I have been able to travel and visit some of the places my ancestors lived or came from.

I visit cemeteries often, when it is cool, and take pictures of the headstones...mostly of my related family, but sometimes even the whole cemetery. I actually was able to visit a "lost" cemetery in Conecuh Co, AL that was on my ancestors land. This cemetery is grown up and very hard to find. It was great and I had a great time working the cemetery and logging the limited info that could be read or interpeded.

While visiting graves of my relatives I generally take pictures of the graves to submit to Find A Grave in hopes of helping others.

If I have added any of your relatives and you want to add or correct any information, please contact me. If you prefer not to have the memorial on line I will gladly delete it OR turn it over to a family member.

I will always create the memorials with honor and respect to the individuals and their family members.

Thanks to all, and good luck and good hunting in your research.

Daughter of George Sowell

You wrote:

"Peka, I am curious on this person being the daughter to George R and Mary A SOWELL. I am leaning to Flora Elizabeth (SOWELL) SULLIVAN as the daughter to George and Mary. What do you think? They were living near George and Mary in the 1900 census."

I really can't do much at this time to figure this out. I'm homebound because my 87 year old mother is living with us and can't be left alone so I can't really get out and go places to find information. I don't subscribe to anymore either. My source for that connection was the book:

James C. Pigg, compiler, Descendents of Richard Edgeworth (Post Office Box 175, Hartsville, South Carolina 29551-0175: Old Darlington District Chapter - South Carolina Genealogical Society, July 2001).

When my mother moved in with us I had to convert my study back to a bedroom, and I had to put a lot of books in the attic. I don't even have this book or a lot of my research notes right now, and I can't get to them either (health problems). I can tell you that that was the only source I have noted for her being his daughter. I have George listed in the census records of 1850, 1870, 1880, 1900, and 1910). He was my great-great grandfather's brother so I am I interesting in pursuing this (but I can't really do much right now). If you find some solid evidence, I would appreciate your letting me know about it. Are you related to the Sowells? Thanks for contacting me. I'll put a note on my genealogy program about your idea so that when the times comes, I can research it some more.

Yes, thanks! I added what you sent to her bio.

N.O. Johnson
You sent the edit that she was the daughter of John Stanley Horton which made me realize the middle initial was a "q" instead of an "o." I had a Nancy Queen listed as his daughter born about 1839 so it made sense. Do you have any idea who she married? I found a G. Henley Johnson buried there (died 1894). I thought I had photographed the entire cemetery but I didn't. I can't believe I went there and didn't photograph all of them (or maybe after going, I added what I didn't have by checking the cemetery survey, don't remember).

Anyway, thanks for your input!

Charles E. Sowell
Hi, We finally are catching up on emails.....I did double-check on the gravesite of Charles E. Sowell and you are correct that he is in fact buried in Oak Hill Cemetery in Escambia Co AL:) Therefore, I have deleted the Find A Grave memorial we had set up for him in Union Cemetery. I had done that for someone else but obviously I didn't check their information more carefully. Thanks so much for letting us know of the error. Julie Clark

I appreciate the photo you put up of William R. Lowrey's headstone in Kilgore Cemetery. He was a brother to my g-grandmother, Mary Francis Lowrey Price. If he's in your tree, I have a photo of him taken at a family reunion about 1940. Also have lots of information about the Lowrey Family to share. Regards.
