Bio Photo I live in Plano, Tx. Most of my ancestors came to the Collin Co. area from Tennessee and Kentucky. My spouse's roots are in southwestern Virginia. Since I retired, I have been very interested in genealogy. I think Find-A-Grave is a great way to share information along with other internet sources. Sanderson Poe
Regarding your edit request to link Sanderson to Sharon Lee Poe, I found this info in a article: Sanderson was preceded in death by his stepmother, Sharon Lee Poe and his birth mother, Stephanie Parris Thompson.

Eliza Akers, Highland Cemetery, Lawton, OK
My grandmother went to the Lawton Public Library yesterday and looked at the microfilmed burial records for Highland Cemetery. Eliza Akers is not buried in the same lot as her husband. She's buried in Block 10, Lot 37. W. J. and Elmer Akers are buried in Block 10, Lot 42. They are buried pretty much next to each other. Eliza Akers is in the same lot as John Poe, Henry Harrison French and his wife, Ruby, and their adopted daughter Helen Eva Felt. The French family has an upright, rose-colored headstone. John Poe's and Eliza Akers' graves do not have grave markers.

Elmer Akers, Highland Cem., Lawton, OK
I notice nothing has been posted yet about the newspaper articles. They are all from the Lawton Constitution. If you order for both Elmer and Eliza, the cost should be around $11 total. It's $5.00 per person which includes one article, then 25 cents for each additional article.

Wed., Nov. 27, 1918, p. 1 and 8: Elmer was about age 30. Headline: "Elmer Akers Found Dead Tuesday Night. Akers Falls at 2nd and C Avenue While Being Taken Home by Earl Hough; Was Well Known in Lawton" Interesting & long article.

Friday, Nov. 29, 1918, p. 4: Short reference to Elmer in "Little Stories of the Street" column. Make sure you list that reference is in "Little Stories of the Street" column.

Saturday, Nov. 30, 1918, p. 5: Short reference to Elmer's burial in Lawton cemetery in "Little Stories of the Street" column.

References to Eliza Akers:

I'm sorry to tell you that Elmer Akers does not have a grave marker. Eupha Akers is the only person buried in the lot who has a grave marker. I have posted a photo of the area where Lot 42 is as a record that a photo was requested and a grave marker was not found. The flat white grave marker in the center of the photo is for Eupha. It is the only Akers grave marker in the lot. I added a caption to the photo.

I have also sent additional information to Mr. David Woody to be posted to Elmer's page. Please allow ample time for him to post it. I have sent a correction that his name is Elmer. His name is identified in three newspaper articles from The Lawton Constitution about his death and burial. I have asked Mr. Woody to post the dates and page numbers of the articles. There is an interesting article about Elmer's death.

If you want copies of the three articles, you can request them from the Southwest Oklahoma Genealogical Society. Be sure to include Elmer's name and the dates and pages of the articles. Also state that they are in The Lawton Constitution.

There is a $5.00 search fee, (check or money order) which entitles you to one copy. Add 50 cents more to your check since you will need to pay 25 cents per article for the other two. That makes a total of $5.50. Include a self-addressed, stamped envelope. Mail it to SWOGS, P. O. Box 148, Lawton, OK 73502.

The Southwest Oklahoma Genealogical Society website is

I hope the above information helps you to be able to find out more about Elmer.

RE: J. Grandstaff Givan Cem.
Glad to help what little I can. If the cemetery condition improves and I am able to find the headstone and photograph it, I will post on Find A Grave.

I was looking at the wrong 1880 census for Mr. Granstaff. I have now linked him with his parents.
Thanks for bringing this to my attention. ICD

Andrew Smith
Just saw your note on David Capehart's page re: Andrew Smith at Grape Creek. Pending edits can be cancelled through the Edit tab on your profile, by selecting "Edits I have sent that are pending" from the drop-down box, then browsing through to find the one you need. (I always have to Ctrl+F to find the intended target faster.)

Andrew's sister, Sophronia Smith Humphreys, is my 2nd-great grandmother. Are you part of the family line, by chance? :)
