I was born in the lower Bull Run Valley of Anderson Co ,TN and baptized in the Bull Run River. My mom and dad bought 12.9 acres from the descendants of John and Sarah Cox in 1946. This has been home since that time. The Cox Cemetery is located on a hill behind my home for which I maintain as a voluntary caretaker. As such I wanted to know more about this family and started doing research online ,at the public library and the county archives. This area of 1000 ac was a 1788 NC Land grant to James Henry who conveyed it to his three married daughters, Elizabeth, Rachael and Ruby Catherine. |
A large number of my mothers ancesters are buried at Bakers Forge Cemetery in Campbell Co., Tn. Most were relocated there when TVA impounded Norris Dam and flooded nearby Loyston in Union Co.,Tn. At that time my mom age 12 moved with her grand parents Lassie Helen Craig Prater Turner and William Harvey Turner to land across the Bull Run River in Anderson Co from which is still in view from her front porch. My mom is related to the Sweats,Craigs,Dials,Praters,Turners and others at Bakers Forge .
My grand father John York came with his family to South Clinton in Anderson Co in the 1920's from Cordell in Scott Co.,Tn and is related to the Yorks,Jeffers,Newports,Lewallens and Sextons of that county. I am far more knowledgable of my moms family. I get very confused when I do research on the Sextons of Scott Co. There are thousands!- and all with the same first and last name!Ugh!
I am a recently retired RN of 35 yrs. Local history,my 6 dogs, gardening, wildlife, preservation and conservation are passions.
I will always be eager to help with links, photos, transfers.
" I always wonder what the people were like whom I'm tromping over and photographing. It's neat to sometimes get a feel for the reality of who they were and how they lived their lives. They sneezed, they dropped stuff that broke, they tripped over something in the dark or stubbed their toes, they hated okra or loved it fried in cornmeal, they loved to laugh or was mad at the world." by Edie Doepel #46583214

Leo I could not find anything on either of these Taylor. I have never noticed the headstone before. I will ask around and see what I can find out.
Just added Florence, on same burial plot is Darrell G. Townsend, b Oct 26, 1956, d Sept 28, 2010. I took a picture of it also if you would like to add a memorial and then I will upload the picture. Just let me know. Linda

I added a picture for Stevenson Vittatoe, there is a M. Florence Cox Townsend b. Sept 1922, D Jan 2004 buried on Stevenson's burial plot. Could this be the Florence you are looking for and maybe she remarried? If this is the one I will add a tombstone picture to her memorial you created. Linda

Leo, I don't know a thing about this person.
There is a site on Facebook called "My Greeneville" where someone on there might be able to answer the question for you.
I added pages on Beverly & Glenda Dunaway that are interred nest to Okey & Susan. Their markers state "Daughter", however not knowing, I have not made a link. These two are also in Sect #2 (Garden of Devotion) and are in what I think is plot 8, but it may well be the same plot #7 and lots 3 & 4. If these are special interest to you, let me know if you should wish transfers.

I'm sorry that I failed to record "plot data". These are just inside the cemetery's main entrance off Alcoa Hwy. They are 2 rows back from the drive's edge on the right side and in "The Garden of Devotion. I read the map as plot 7-D, but that might not be the official location. I also made the 2 daughters that lie adjacent to Okey & Susan.
