|Mary W. Daley||Eugenia Washington gravesite|
Hello from a fellow "Fredericksburgian" (JMHS '76) and Find-A-Grave contributor. Fredericksburg, VA was a great place to grow up and I get back there once-twice/yr.
Am wondering if the Eugenia Washington interred in your Glencairne Cemetery in Stafford County is the woman who was one of the founders of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR)? From the photo of the gravesite, I couldn't tell but that doesn't mean it wasn't one and the same woman. The National DAR (headquartered in Washington, DC) says in their literature that she was one of the four founders of DAR in the late 19th century and was motivated, in part to help start the charitable lineage organization due to her experiences in the Civil War Battle of Fredericksburg. If so (and I didn't see an e-mail for the contributor who created her Find-A-Grave entry), you may wish to add this to her biography.
I note you say this cemetery is on private property. Who may I contact if, when I next visit the area, I wish to visit the Eugenia Washington gravesite?
Are you any relation to John Chichester (was an insurance agent, I believe)? He was a good friend of my late father, William E. Daley, M.D. who had a family practice in F'burg from the mid-1960s to the mid-1980s.
~ Mary W. Daley
Thanks for the transfer!
