Bio Photo -She Walks These Hills-

"She walks these hills in a long black veil, she visits my grave when the night wind wails.
Nobody knows, nobody sees but me...."

(song lyrics by Dill and Wilkins)

------------------------------

For years I have been intrigued in researching the history of my family. I had no idea when you pull one thread, dozens more appear. I have met many wonderful fellow historians in this pursuit and in this aspect I am forever grateful to Find A Grave.

I simply enjoy people's stories and each grave and headstone mark a life that is interesting and worth knowing more about.

Often times we are so consumed by our own lives we forget- or overlook the voices from the past. They were here before us, we can learn from their lives.

Looking for Information about Winston Family
Hi! I'm a doctoral student at the University of Maryland currently researching the Winston Family, specifically the murder of Virginia Bell Winston and her child in July of 1852. I'm looking for more information about the Winston family in general and was wondering if you had anything you could share. You can contact me at hynsonh@umd.edu. Thanks in advance!

get together
Sandy, I've been retired for a year now, and still haven't gotten back to all the things I want to do in Hanover. Let's get together after the holidays. Have a great Christmas!

Would you link William R. Stiefbold (19320047)with his wife Elsie (19320071)? I just took a picture of their grave that confirms their relationship.

Please move the picture from # 93888772 - it belongs to a different memorial.

Thank you

RE: John Wingfield Burch
Actually I just reworded the info on the death certificate. But I thought that was so sad. I can't stand all those who die too young. It was a "carbuncle on his left buttocks" but I didn't feel the need to put that info on there, ha. My guess is that he waited way too long to go get it looked at. Just my thoughts from having raised my own children thru that age! Thank you for your help on this. I wish I had a photo of him. I'll keep at that. Thanks, Betty.

RE: Thomas W. Brockenbrough
The pleasure is mine! I so agree with your views and your statements on your profile page. I too see the addition of biographical information to be enlightening. It gives the individual a "personality"...a place in life not just a place in rest. I wish everyone would post these bios, many won't and that is a shame. I have been a member of Find A Grave for several years and have seen it evolve over time. I totally disagree with those who maintain that Find A Grave is only a place to document a persons final resting place and was never meant to be for "genealogy". These people had lives, accomplishments, careers, and families and for those who come after us knowing them will make it all the more interesting and fulfilling.

I wish you the best and look forward to working with you in the future.

Sincerely,
Richard

Hi Sandy, I appreciate the acknowledgement and am happy to help.
BTW, I found the date of his death (25 Feb 1887) at Ancestry.com. Virginia, Deaths and Burials Index, 1853-1917.

Thank you for all of your contributions to Find A Grave,
Richard

Goddin Family
Hi,

I am currently researching the Goddin family in Virginia, are you related? If so, have you taken the Ancestry DNA test? I'm looking for DNA matches to further my research. If you'd like to email me my email address is cwglzrl(at)att(dot)net.

Thanks!
Cindy
