This set a example and Grave Law in all America!

His first bill he submitted, sponsored, and was passed was the Virginia Cemetery Bill, which forbade any destruction and/or plowing them under of them!

He alone saved the Wild Turkey (Meleagris gallopavo silvestris) from being becoming extinct when he was Chairman of Virginian Wildlife. Yes this is the Bird which the Country TURKEY attained that name. Tom, hen , and poults all.
Benjamin Franklin wanted this as our national Bird.

I can see how it would be easy to miss-understand this Bio. Re-reading it may help......."speaking in fifty-two states, territories and provinces, and in 1,250 different cities and towns, including every large city in the United States and Canada." Notice he said states territories and Provinces in the "United States and Canada". Currently there are 5 US territories that are inhabited and 11 without residents. In Canada there are 10 Provinces and 3 territories. So he had a chance to speak in 52 out of 68, however at his death there were only 48 states. With a little research I think the number would be closer to 60. He probably started his public speaking during the civil war and there was only 34 states at the start of the war.

Hello Jonathan:

My maiden name is Roland. I am a Roland in search of any information about my great-great-grandfather and great-great-grandmother. Here is what I know:

Great-Great-Grandfather:

David H. Roland born 1824 in Campbell County, VA (Son of Cager & Anna Roland)
1st Wife – Ruth Hagar (7 childern)

2nd Wife - Martha Ann Covington Gilley Roland (my great-great-grandmother)
2 children – Fannie Jane Roland (2/28/1874 – 3/16/1927)
Matthew Creed Roland (4/8/1873 – 1/1/1953)

David H. Roland was a farmer in Henry County, VA. According to the 1880 census, Fannie Jane and Matthew Creed were living with half-brother, George W. Roland and half-sister, Annie. It is at this point that David and Martha seem to have vanished. I assume that they left their two young children for a good reason, but I have hit a brick wall.

Henry County borders North Carolina (Rockingham County) and some of the children did settle in what is now Eden. Also, Martha had a daughter by her first marriage who settled in Henderson, TN.

Any information you may have is very appreciated.

Speaking of Bluegrass music: My husband’s grandfather, Charlie H. Lester (#2895229) owned a general store/shoe repair shop in Stoneville, NC. He and Charlie Poole would get together and play on the store steps. That may have been before Poole became famous. I have the banjo that was played by Lester.

That is a funny image ... the winding-up baseball pitcher. Too bad that dad was not sports-minded. He was into coins and stamps and farming. And his first name had two L's. You seem like a good chap, so thanks for the flower. You did it with the best of intentions. And your name is on my friend list.

I am not sure what you were writing on that flower for my dad (who was an English major in college):

"Russel Lewis Warner you , your wife, and family are a true astute attribute f=of mankind! GOD Bless youall!
- Jonathan Robert De Mallie, Historian"

Could you go back and re-do your accolades to him?

Thanks!

Jonathan: Thank you for your visits to my family memorials. It means a lot to me.

Bryant is my married name. My husband's family was born, raised and lived in the Rockingham County of NC. Rockingham County borders the VA state line. I do not know much about them. My husband's grandmother and grandfather divorced very early on and the Bryant side slipped away and were not talked about. If you find that you may be related, let me know and I may be able to come up with a little more information.

Best wishes for a great day - Jayne
