Bio and Links
Bio Photo I have been interested in my "roots" since I was about 13 years old, but have only been seriously researching since 1996. Most of my ancestors migrated to Georgia from Virginia and the Carolina's starting just before and shortly after the Revolutionary War. It seems their offspring couldn't stay put and kept going to the newly opened frontiers until settling in Cental and West Georgia. However some still had the "bug" and headed further west to Texas, Arizona and even California. One branch emigrated from Prussia to the Dakotas in the late 1870's then came to Georgia by marrying into the family in 1920. The ancestors seemed to be quiet prolific, so I have spent many hours "talking to ghosts" while traipsing through cemeteries and family graveyards and the woods looking for that elusive ancestor's burial site in Georgia. Ancestor surnames, in case you want to contact me to compare notes or share research, are Cosby, Mitcham, Phillips, Atkinson, Owen, Embry, Becker, Berry, Thomas, Hardaway and Ray.

With the exception of a very few, the memorials that I have added are my ancestors - some direct, some their siblings and siblings spouses. I am glad to share my research. Please consider all headstone and cemetery photos as public domain and you can copy and use them. I have posted a few family photos also. If you are related and want a copy for your family records, you are more than welcome to copy them, but please let me know that you are doing so. Please do not publish them elsewhere without my permission.

If you are more directly related than I am to someone whose memorial that I have created or maintain, even if it is someone in my large family circle, I am more than happy to transfer the memorial to you.

Sue M. Hardaway
I was very excited to read that Sue's maiden name was "Moornaugh". I am researching the Moomaugh family of Georgia and you can imagine how difficult it is to follow that name. The marriage of Susan and Thomas was listed in Georgia Marriages 1808-1967 as between T. J. Hardaway and Sue "Newmaugh". I think she is the daughter of my ancestors Emanuel Moomaugh and Martha Cousins Hayes. She was born around 1838 in Jackson County, GA. Her family moved to Terrell County and then she moved in with her Uncle Henry Hayes and sister, Phoebe Moomaugh Jones in Calhoun County. They were there for the 1880 census.

Please tell me more about Susan and Thomas if you know anything. I would be glad to answer any questions you might have about the Moomaughs.

Thank you,

Jane Doughty

Hey Gwen.. Afraid we're not related. Just took on the Greenwood Cemetery as my first photo project! And it was a chore. If I have created any memorial for your family, by all means let me know I will gladly transfer. Its a very big, beautiful place. Was happy to take the thousands of pictures in months that it took me! Enjoy!

Nope, not related. Just working on Meriwether county cemeteries right now. I saw County Line on the map but the findagrave page only had 21 memorials listed. Since there had to be more buried there, I stopped by to take a few shots.

Embry Line
Hi Gwen, I found your Find A Grave memorial for Hiram H. Embry today -- I've been trying to untangle the mess of Embry + Howard lines for quite awhile. I found some trees on Ancestry.com that have some great info, but of course, no solid documentation. Let's compare notes sometime. My biggest problem is determining exactly which Devine/Divine/Divina Howard married which Wiley/Joseph Wiley/Merrill Embry(s).

RE: William G. Cosby
I always think that the memorials of relatives should be managed by there decendants. Glad to help. My Peavy's were from Randolph County, around Shellman and Cuthbert. Then moved to Hall and White counties.
