My search for members of my family expanded to include the men with whom they served during the Civil War and WW1. Those units being:

113th Illinois Volunteer Infantry (Civil War)

1st Illinois Light Artillery (Civil War)

5th Machine Gun Battalion, 2nd Division, AEF. (WW1)

For anyone interested, I've added a virtual cemetery of members of the "Forlorn Hope" volunteer storming party, which assaulted Vicksburg on 22 May 1863. Known survivors were awarded the Medal of Honor thirty-one years after the event. Among them are four veterans of the 113th IL Vol. Infantry.

My family lines of interest include: Baker, Banker, Eliasberg, Kaaz, Kramer, Leoprick/Loeprick, Moore, Ohnesorge, Schmeling, Schwartz, Silverstone/Silvestone, Torbet/Torbett.

My wife's family lines of interest are: Hauschild, Jackson, Champion, Geschke, Sims, Staley, Watts, Weems, Wilson.

5th MG BN Co. C
Can you please help with this 2nd Div 5th MG BN?
Is there a roster for Company C 5th MG BN?
This came from the Wolfe/Wilcox family in MN. I found that her Grandfather Harry C Wilcox's grave, the memorial nots SFC QM Corps, the World War 1.
Could Harry have served in the 5th MG BN as Pvt. discharged, then later as SFC in QM Corps, and that was his last rank which was put on his Govt. marker instead of 5th MG BN. The tunic, pants, and garrison hat have Wilcox written on them.

BUT, the tunic also has initial G L and service number 2,787,666? It could have originally belonged to G L.

Can you please try and help me preserve this history. Pictures enclosed.
Thanks in advance

Also what's your interest in 5th MG BN?

Hi! Regarding your photo request, can you please contact the cemetery and obtain the Section, Lot, and Grave Number information, and then post it to your request? Please also ask if there is a grave marker and add that information to your photo request and/or memorial. The Find A Grave FAQs state the photo requestor is responsible to provide this information.

Elmwood Cemetery: (708) 453-0273

This cemetery provides extremely limited assistance to photo volunteers with finding a grave's location. Last year I was able to fulfill almost 200 photo requests at Elmwood through this process. Because the lots in this cemetery are poorly marked, almost no one else ever photographs here. I have only had success here because I have spent literally weeks at a time to learn the intricacies of the layout of this cemetery.

Thank you for helping me to help you.

ID Military in Westlawn-Hillcrest
We are currently working to identify anyone buried in Westlawn-Hillcrest Cemetery Omaha NE that has served in the military. If you have a loved one buried there or know of someone, please send us a message. We place flags on the graves for Memorial Day. This project is sponsored by Centennial Masonic Lodge.

If you can send us the names, we will be sure to include them on our list to get a flag.

Thank you for the help with this ongoing project.

Thank you for putting a picture of my Grandparent's head stone on Find A Grave. George was born in Oswego, Kendall Co, Ill and died in Carona, Cherokee Co, Kansas. His wife Mary Ann Herrick was born in Kingston, Thanes Surry, England and died in Kankakee, Kankakee Co, Ill. I thought you might like to add this info to the website. Thank you for all the work you to do to help people find their families. Judith Smith Cole.

RE: John Fry @ Linn Grove Cem.
Thank You Thank You! Now that is a first for me. And it was done by request so I would say we all had a senior moment and didn't catch it. I will need to go back through my photos to correct it.
Thanks again for letting me know.
Have a great day.

Info for Gottlieb Winter & Thomas Tilley
Hi! Can you please call or e-mail the cemetery and ask for the Section, Lot, and Grave numbers and then add this information to their online records? This helps the photo volunteers to find the grave marker.

Elmwood is a huge cemetery and this information is needed in order to fulfill your request. I have located more than 50 graves at Elmwood for Find A Grave, but I cannot find a grave for you without the burial plot information.

Thank you! Ace
