RE: erroneous memorials in Santa Fe National Cemetery ~ ALL people buried in ALL National Cemeteries are findable at VetGravesLocator

I don't make more than a couple memorials a day on average, but have done research into the families of lots of them...same for many whose pictures I post...making me gladly able to help with most anyone's ancestral brick walls however I can.

As the activity on FindAGrave increases, memorials and pictures left to be added decrease. There are already over 125,000,000 memorials; so considering that half the people who ever lived on Planet Earth are living now, and that it's unknown where over 90% of the dead are...how many does that leave? -LOL and go figure.

When the picture "request" function first started, pix were limited in size to 250K: a comparatively tiny 1/32 of 8M now allowed. Back then there was only one guy and me taking pix in Arlington National (all that white granite for matching military markers comes from Vermont...not China :^), and there weren't many requests, so you can see how membership and contributions have exploded! I've had to tell my eager grandboy that there will probably be little picture-taking left to do when another seven years pass, just always recent deaths to add.

Us'uns who are willing & able: little burial grounds usually need cleaning and repairs; but don't go alone, and be careful ~ I've encountered snakes, dogs, & Black Widow spiders...and been told creepy tales about the LIVING I might encounter.

Some might think others of us are too possessive about pictures we take/post, but you probably haven't encountered a self-aggrandizer who deletes memorials after lifting the pictures others added to them and then remakes memorials with same pictures claimed as their own. As on any real city block, not everything is hunky-dory here; and not all the neighbors are nice. It takes just one rotten apple plus a few manipulators, stalkers, and green-eyed game players...especially the ones who post wrong poor-quality pictures on purpose, change names &/or places of burial to make originals look like duplicates, &/or put deaths willy-nilly into incorrect cemeteries just to inflate their "contributions" and then get huffy & vindictive when others notice the obvious, duh...to require the rest of us in the barrel to ignore the inappropriate comedy of their intentional errors.

COMMENTS ON MESSAGES TO ME ABOUT COPYRIGHT ISSUES, INCLUDING FindAGrave's OWN rules and regulations, found here ~ FindAGrave FAQs ~ which admonish, among else: >>The copyright of all photos posted to Find A Grave remains with the original submitter. No use of photos for any other website or personal use is given without prior consent of the original submitter.<<

Sad to have to point out that I have posted NO pictures on ancestry.com, but some members there and elsewhere online lifted pictures I DID add to FindAGrave ~ ESPECIALLY of KINFOLK ~ & reposted them as their own with no credit given. When you see a picture on ancestry.com identical to one I've added to FaG, mine is the original; if ancestry.com included posting dates, I would not have to explain this. It's also quite silly that when I/others have made family trees there from personal information, they're noted as having no sources, but then when others copy same, their "source" is US!

You can use pictures I've taken and posted on this site in your online family trees by making a connective link to the original and/or including " FindAGrave member #46897564"; none may be sold and/or exchanged for any type of payment.

Why I got on FindAGrave:

I oversaw the newsletter of Colonel David Hackworth, military author/ commentator/ columnist with 8 Purple Hearts, for several years until he died from the effects of Agent Blue (used along with Agent Orange in Vietnam) while my husband was off in a war zone; at which time I needed a new focus and determined to pin-point our then-totally-unknown ancestors: at least 28 Revolutionary War Patriots, his Mayflower and Salem "witch" ancestors, my Swedish "hanky-panky in the palace" & Scottish Robert the Bruce people...and many *ships who pass in the night* ~ then sometimes remain friends ~ who have been great fun, challenges, and blessings to find.

So, at the onset in 2005, I was first able to find basic facts of the missing Major James Powell, and began a two-year mission to restore his legacy which was lost upon his death at Shiloh 145 years ago today as I write this 06APRIL2007. This long walk, still being shared with both living and non-bodied souls, is what educated me in how to usually quite rapidly find pertinent data for you "strangers," which I still remain happily willing to do!

My head-smacks in research are people assumed to be kids of step-parents when the bio-parent (usually mother) died too young & seeing my favorite greatgrandmother constantly called "Mrs. G.: husband's first initial and married name" ~ most ALL females losing their identities up into the 1960s; so I'm elated whenever I successfully work the puzzles ~ better than word math, sudoku, or cryptograms ~ of restoring ladies' kids &/or maiden names as the most appropriate and long-lasting FLOWERS to their memories, and alas, I still have just ONE nee name in my own Heck(ofA)family to dig up.

May all of Granny Vance's roses perpetually bloom bright and happy!

The book of life is brief,
And once the pages read
All but love is dead:
That is my belief.

God is Love.

RE: RosaWilliamsLewis
Also, "Reverand" Lewis has two different middle names, Jackson & James. Might want to straighten that out. Ain't it fun!

RE: Mary Griffiths
Hi. According to the death certificate for her eldest son, Mary (Edwards) Griffiths was born in Wales and was the wife of Joseph Griffiths, also born in Wales. I don't know when she was born, but I believe her husband was born between 1820 and 1824. I don't know when or where they were married. Their children were all born near Brady's Bend, PA: Jabes (1842-1914); John (1847-1923); Martha (Mattie) Griffiths Hazlet (1858-1928) and Margaret (Maggie) Griffiths Swift (1860-1927). There may have been 2 other younger children, Josephine and William, but there's little info or confirmation regarding them. Margaret died in Olean, NY and is buried at Pleasant Valley. I have a city directory that places a Mary Griffiths (widow of Joseph, 46 Elm St) in Bradford, PA in 1899.

RE: Pleasant Valley
Thanks, CrypoGram. I did contact the memorial creator, but she wasn't able to find the correction request. I was interested in the proof that was uncovered because that would mean I found my great great grandmother's burial place. So close! Looks like I will have to plan a trip up there. Thanks, again. Let me know if I can help you with anything. Karen

RE: Pleasant Valley
Hi, CryptoGram. We corresponded last fall about Mary Griffiths' grave in Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Olean (you were very helpful, thank you!). Since we last wrote, I notice that the maiden name 'Edwards' has been added to Mary's Memorial. Is this information that you uncovered? I'm interested to know what documentation or information was found to make the change. Thank you, Karen O.

Charles S Bither
I know that he died in New Mexico but his family plot is in Linneus. He has a headstone there.

Greetings CryptoGram- I don't remember if I sent you a thank you for the Moot marker photograph. I think the notice of the update came while I was in the hospital, so sorry it took a bit for me to respond. I appreciate your taking the time to fulfill these requests!
