RE: Sarah Webb Maples

Thank you so much for all the info. My dad was born in Claiborne county, Tennessee and went to Ohio when he was 17 to find work and has been here ever since. I grew up in the West Liberty/Bellefontaine area and we used to drive to Springfield to go to the mall when I was a kid. Very interesting that Clinton Rice made his way there. Thanks again. Maybe I can find Jane somewhere to see where she ended up.

Hi Dennis,

Thank you for the info on Cordelia Rice Miles.

Do you know who the parents of Clinton Rice were?

If you would like everything I have on William Maples and Cordelia's aunts and uncles I would be glad to share what I have. I am descended through Lee Roy Maples, the son of William and Sarah Webb Maples.

Thanks again. Maybe this will lead to finding out what happened to Jane Martin Rice.

RE: Sarah Webb Maples

I have Sarah Jane Martin being born in April 1861. She is listed in the household of William Maples on the 1900 Claiborne Co., TN Federal Census using her maiden name. She is listed as divorced and a girl (probably her daughter, name of Cordie Rice) is also on this census record. She is also with William and Sarah Maples on the 1880 Claiborne county census as Sarah J, age 11 which is incorrect since she would have been about 19 at this time but I am sure this is her. Sarah Webb Maples' first husband Larry Martin, is mentioned in William Maples' Civil War pension records. If you have any other questions, let me know.

Possible husband of Jane Martin: Clinton Rice (Claiborne County marriage between Jane Martan and Clinton Rice 8 Jul 1879). Clinton Rice married another Sarah about 1884 according to the 1900 census records below. I have never been able to find any more information about Jane after the 1900 census.

1880 Claiborne Co., Federal Census, 8th district, page 176b, 165-165 - RICE, Clinton, 18, farmer; Jane, 16, wife; Lu, 1/12, dau.

Did I respond to your request for directions to Pittman cemetery? Charles Pittman is a big Pittman researcher, but I haven't been able to contact him for a while. He might not be with us anymore, he's an old man
