Bio and Links
Bio Photo Avid genealogist and repository of family history stuff. I love history and old things, and am especially fascinated by the places around me, and the tales of those who have lived and wandered through the same places I do today. I'm keenly interested in the history of material culture; the history of objects and how they were designed, manufactured, retailed, sold, used, thought about, lost, discarded, kept and treasured. This interest pairs naturally with my wonderment about family history, which originally led me to this site.

I owe much to the abundance of family info I've obtained over the years, shared by cousins and volunteers all over the world - some still living and some now waiting for us on the other side. I love helping people with their own ancestral exploration journeys. In my spare time, I scan through old newspapers and enter the final resting places of those souls lost to the memory of time from published obits and death notices, hoping that one day they'll be found by their own relatives. This and my headstone photo volunteering are my ways of "paying it forward" for all the help, love, and support that has been shown to me in this work. I used to have a great fear of death, but this project has helped me get over that. I now think of cemeteries as peaceful memorial parks, and enjoy my time there paying respects on behalf of the families, friends, and loved ones who can't make it there themselves.

My initial goal is to enter at least as many records to Find A Grave as number of persons in my family history database (...currently about 16,000). One for each one that I've 'found' on my own journey. I love to research & include women's maiden names, and first names too as they're so often Mrs. Richard So-and-So throughout history.

PLEASE help your photo volunteers by obtaining the plot information (if any) and adding it to your desired memorial record prior to requesting a photo! You'll find that your requests are fulfilled much more quickly than if we have to do this ourselves (and some places charge!). This is a volunteer effort. Help us help you.

People live on as long as they're remembered. Speak their names often...

~A Poem for our Ancestors~
Your tombstone stands among the rest
Neglected and alone
The name and date are chiseled out
On polished marble stone
It reaches out to all who care
It is too late to mourn
You did not know that I exist
You died and I was born
Yet each of us are cells of you
In flesh, in blood and bone
Our blood contracts and beats a pulse
Entirely not our own
Dear Ancestor, the place you filled
One hundred years ago
Spreads out among the ones you left
Who would have loved you so
I wonder if you lived and loved
I wonder if you knew
That someday I would find this spot
And come to visit you

Hi Stephanie,

How did you come to put him at Forest Lawn? He is not listed on their grave locator and there is now a photo request. I called Forest Lawn and they say not there. Any thoughts? James

Henry Taft Eaton, Sr.
Hello Stephanie,

My name is Bob Eaton. Henry Taft Eaton, Sr. (memorial number 155302040) was one of my great uncles. I am already managing the memorials to Henry's five siblings, his parents and his wife. I realize that his memorial does not qualify for a required transfer under Find-A-Grave policies. Nonetheless, I was hoping you would consider transferring his memorial to me, so I can manage it along with the many other Eatons who are buried in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery in Concord. My Find-A-Grave number is 48983018. I am planning to add gravestone photos to all of the memorials - I just need to try again as my original photos didn't come our very well. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions, and thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,

Bob Eaton

Waydell photo
I took a number of photos of the Waydell plot a few years ago,and posted most of them. I have two left, one for a John Waydell, who died in Havana and for a (illegible first name) Wilson.

I created two memorials to get them on the website. You are welcome to take them over.

Regards

Michael

All is well here. I also did some looking on Ancestry & still am certain she really is in St. George Cem. Thanks for taking care of the duplicate situation.
Thanks for all you do with your research!!!

Hi Stephanie! Look at #110296847. I think she is "our" Kate Schutz Beck. OR did you find a real connection with the person buried in IL? The grave in St. George is near the other Schutz family. There is a difference in her husband's middle initial. Let me know what you think.

RE: Lizzie Getchell
Oh my - that's a tad bit frustrating!

Did you not know Lizzie's given name was Devida when you asked me to change it to Elizabeth?

No worries, we'll get it figured out. Thanks for bringing the duplicate to my attention.

Stephanie,

Google lists 10,500,000 results for The Day Family Genealogy and 279,000,000 results for Day Family Association. I'm afraid I don't have time to search these to find sources for the edits you requested.

As an avid genealogist myself (I started in the 80's), I know the damage error-filled family trees cause via the domino-effect. My goal is to keep the memorials in my care as error-free as possible.

Rootsweb posted a guide you may find helpful: http://rwguide.rootsweb.ancestry.com/lesson12.htm

Thank you for understanding my desire to maintain the integrity of the information on Find A Grave.

Laura
