|Jan Bos from Nijmegen, Holland||Lt Raymond A. Runzel and crew|
1st Lieutenant Raymond A. Runzel was pilot of a C-47 tail number 42-68714 and participated in "operation Fustion". The mission for the group [60th Troop Carrier Group] was dropping British paratroopers during the night of 13-14 July 1943 on a dropzone south of Catania, Sicily. The plane was shot down by enemy anti-aircraft fire. All crewmembers were killed and buried in the temporary American GELA Cemetery in Sicily,[group burial]. The men could not be identified individually. After the war the remains of the menw were repatriated and reburied in the New Albany National Cemetery, Indiana in grave F-264-265 [group burial]
I am writing a book about the GELA Cemetery, where over 1,200 men and women were buried between July 1943 and April 1947. Hope to finish my book this year, 2015
You took a picture of the grave and I would like your permission to use the picture for my book project, of course you will be credited and notified when the book is finished
