I live in Maui, Hawaii. I was born and raised in California. |
I have a large Mississippi connection. The photo is of Wesley Dow Allen son of Major John Braxton Allen and Elizabeth Herod.
Wesley's wife is Melisa Jane White, she is the daughter of James White and Mary Polly (White) White.
Seated is Ida Eugenia Allen "Miss Ida" "Big Mother". She is my great grandmother. I remember her. She died when I was 5 years old
I moved to Maui with my wife Yoki and 4 boys Eric, Jason, Lucas and Yancey in 1975. We had a daughter Marissa born here on Maui.
I surfed at Honalua Bay and windsurfed at Hookipa Beach on Maui for 25 years.
About St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Makawao, Maui, Hawaii.
I have no relatives buried there. My wife goes to the thrift store there and I transcribe burials while I wait for her. If you have information about people buried there please let me know what you would like to add.

No, I use to have more, some how those pictures were deleted. I have notice that there have been people posting these pictures which is a big help. Yes, I believe that this Rebekah Allen is Richard's daughter. But most important to me now is trying to prove for a fact Who Elisha Palmer Turnage's father. as of right now, I have it listed as Elisha, per someone I spoke with. However, I do not have any proof to that.

I've entered links for Blanch, Tucker, Lorenzo Dow, and R. L. "Davie". So they should show up on her page soon.
Frances Eubank, wife of Ben Lyal Pentecost, died 3 Aug 1974 in Memphis, Shelby, TN. Her husband is buried in Memorial Park Cemetery there, but I found no memorial for her. I thought you might want to at least add her death date and place.

John, you might want to make a correction to this one. You have him listed as a Doctor but "Dock" was a nickname. The article clearly states he was a Farmer.
John, I am wondering if you can add a couple obituaries for me. Thanks
Sorry, change the 1941 to 1741.
|Tristram Coffin||RE: Mystery|
John Coffin, Jr, son of John Mendom Coffin and husband of Mary Davis is cited as the father of Edward Coffin, born in Fishkill, Dutchess County, NY. However, I can find absolutely no record of John and Mary relocating to upstate NY, although many New Englanders did, as did a number of Dutch.
Records show John Coffin Jr taking numerous fishing trips north to Nova Scotia for a number of years until suddenly taking Mary and some of his children for permanent relocation.
One theory purported by Hereld Stuart, posits that Edward Coffin actually born to Dutch immigrants Isaac Coffing and Anna (Churchill) in 1941. His headstone at the cemetery in which he was buried says he'd been buried at 82. There is, however, statements contained in records stating he was born in 1761, however that would make the headstone incorrect.
So the mystery is, who exactly are Edward Coffin's parents? There are instances of the Coffin name having a number of alternate spellings; Coffyn, Coffeen, Coffing Eric. So it's not possible that the spelling of Coffing disqualifies Isaac Coffing, although that spelling isn't all that common except amongst Irish and Dutch immigrants, not so much British Coffins.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

I'm working on the old Nathan Smith (Franklin/Lincoln County)who married Elizabeth Jackson. She was reported to be a daughter of William Jackson and Celia Gordon who died in Carroll County, Mississippi. Could you please share where the Jackson Cemetery in Vaiden is located or where your information came from? Anything you could share would be most appreciated.

You never know..
I was approached by a friend today who is trying to reconnect with family. She handed me a tattered funeral program from 1987. She said, "Tom, work your magic." I spent my lunch hour searching and found the woman's parents, which you had posted while your wife shopped at the thrift store. We are well on our way to reuniting this family, thanks to you. You never know.

I saw your message to Buena Smith (Jan 2013) today. T. S. Buie wrote a Smith Family History of Marlboro County, SC in 1966. It shows George and Martha (Patsy) Smith as having twelve children. One is Charles Marion; he married Abigal McKinnon and they had 4 children; he next married her sister, Jennet, in Marion County GA in 1855 and they had 5 children before moving on to Carroll County, MS about 1871.
I got this info from Jane C. Smith, a descendant of Charles Marion & Jennet through their son Thomas Holton Smith. About 10-15 years ago you could contact her through the e-mail address firstname.lastname@example.org, but I don't know if it's still good.
I am descended from Charles & Jennet's son Rufus Baroner Smith, his daughter Jeannette, and her son Cyrus Butt III. I'd be happy to help more if I can. Sincerely, David Butt (#47598432)
