Bio and Links
Bio Photo Besides working on my own family tree I'm building trees here and on Ancestry.com to link the men, women and children buried at the state hospitals in Morganton and Goldsboro and at the Caswell Training Center in Kinston, NC and Letchworth Village in NY to their loved ones.
I grew up in Greenville county, SC, first in the city of Greenville, then at the foot of Glassy Mountain in the "Dark Corner" where my maternal grandmother and her parents and grandparents were born. My mother, Anne Ballenger King McCuen, worked for decades as a meticulous land historian in upper SC and published several research texts. My father, William Garrison McCuen, MD worked for decades as an internist/general practitioner caring for many of the upstate SC residents in their homes, hospitals, the Veterans' clinic and his office.

Now I am in the foothills of NC, but enjoy maintaining family property near Glassy Mtn.

You hereby have my express permission to use ANY photo I have posted to Find a Grave for your own purposes - but I would appreciate a credit notation as the source should you repost it on your family tree, for this reflects the efforts made in preserving the record and may also provide a link to others interested in that person or cemetery.

I "inherited" a number of memorials posted by Buck Buchanan who introduced me to FAG and will happily transfer them to family. Just send a SAC stating your relationship and I'll be pleased to turn them over to your care.

As for those of you who assist me in making these memorials useful and respectful, "thanks" and please keep your helpful edits coming.

A lot of conflicts might be avoided among us if each of us will accept and act as if this is about those who've gone before and NOT about us.

Letchworth Village Cemetery,
Yesterday I was watching a program on Netflix in which they were exploring Letchworth Village Asylum and talking to people who had worked there and some who had explored the ruins also. It was very interesting and not something I had seen before. It is a sad truth that these places which were supposed to offer sanctuary became the exact opposite for the inmates. I was curious and found your documentation of the graves on here. Feeling badly for those who were buried there, I went through and added a token to all the memorials which didn't have one. I'm glad you took all the time to add them here so that these poor people could be remembered.
Thank you for all your work here.

Mrs. Martha Pennington
The Mrs. Martha Pennington in Find A Grave in Broughton Hospital Cemetery, could she really be the Martha Taylor Greer Penninngton that was married to Harvey and not Levi. I think we need to check into this more. I'm ALMOST convinced that she is Harvey's wife.

Nickels-Wright-Holmes Family Cemetery
Dear Suzannah, I am looking for the exact location of the Nickels-Wright-Holmes Family Cemetery in Laurens County, South Carolina. I noticed you had created the graves listed at this cemetery and was curious if you knew anything more about the site, its history, or specific location. Thank you for your time and effort!
