I live in Upstate South Carolina and enjoy working on my Family Tree. Some of my family names are Garrett, Waters, Burrell, Hadden, Thomas, Keaton, and Caldwell. Most of my ancestors are from Upstate South Carolina and bordering counties in North Carolina and Georgia. My husband's family names are Kelley, Motes, Pearson, and Burton. His ancestors are also mostly from Upstate South Carolina.|

|Record Hunter||Scanned obit|
Sorry to bother you but you posted a scanned obit to Annie Lois Fisher Edgins memorial #49708393. Please see the following:
Question: Can we scan obituaries and death certificates to memorials?
Answer: Partially correct. Obit scans are not allowed. Death certificates are allowed, though not considered optimal. Original grave photos are what the website is looking for. Transcribe any found obit into the bio text area.

So in accordance with Findagrave Rules, please remove it, thanks and regards.
Findagrave has sent me a notice stating that if I do not follow the rules they can block my memorials from me and revoke my membership. So, in accordance with Findagrave Rules, please remove scanned obituary. If you rewrite the obituary, not verbatim and not listing any living individuals, you can post it to the bio section via the edit tab and I will post it, thanks and regards.

Thanks -- I will order it and let you know if it gives us any useful information.

Hi Peggy, I was afraid of that. Georgia birth records are maintained by the county and since we don't know what county he was born in, we're out of luck there. I wonder if I ordered a copy of his death certificate from Columbia, SC, if it might reveal who his parents were -- or have you already tried that? BTW, I grew up in Seneca but live in Atlanta.

John Keaton as my great, grandfather. My grandfather was his son Wilburn who was married to Louise Redmond, daughter of infamous Major Lewis Redmond. I am trying to find out who John Keaton's parents were so that I can continue my quest but so far nothing is listed anywhere I have looked. He apparently was born in Georgia about 1835. Any advice you can offer will be much appreciated. firstname.lastname@example.org

Thanks for adding the obit. No, the order for the pictures is fine. I'd actually rather the obit be first. Thanks again. LATER
|Michelleski||RE: Dollie Ann Garrett|
I'm a descendant of James Brooks sister Nancy who married Robert Manley. Robert Manley and James Brooks were neighbors in 1860. They both joined Orr's Rifles in the Civil War. James was killed at Spotsylvania and Robert deserted after that battle, was captured and sent to Elmira Prison.
I just learned that James and Nancy Brooks mother Elizabeth was a Coates. I looked at Coates in SC and also found a book that extracts names from various documents. Abbeville county, SC probate records show a Nancy Coates Brooks, a Margaret Coates Gordon and an Elizabeth Coates Brooks. I suspected the three were sisters. I found John Coates I believe to be at least Margaret's father since they were neighbors in a census. Then I checked the Public Member Trees on ancestry and learned that he died in 1876. So I wrote to the SC Archives and asked for the estate papers for John Coates which I just received this week. The three were indeed sisters. In the papers Bluford Garrett stakes a claim on the estate on behalf of his daughters Mamie E. (look closely at the 1880 census. It looks more like "Many" than Mary) and Eva L. Garrett who must have been born between 1880 and 1883. I'm unable to find any further records for Mamie or Eva.
Unless you walked down the path I just did, you would never stumble across the information. Such is genealogy!
The estate papers are 175 11" by 17" pages. Unless you are a direct descendant, you probably don't want them yourself. If you wish, I can send you the relevant pages. Use my regular email email@example.com.
