Sarah Malinda Landrum #31278403
I am researching my Crosby ties to the Landrum line when I came across the memorial for Sarah Landrum. Who she is and the 1775 date makes no sense at all. I did a little research on this design of stone. They were issued from the U.S. government beginning in 1903 to mark unmarked graves of veterans and spouses. This design was used up till about 1970. Until about 5 years ago, to get a VA marker all you had to do was prove you were related. Then about 2010 the VA decided they wanted proof of the Veteran actually being buried where you were going to place the marker. Note that James Landrum and Thomas A. Horner also have the same design markers at Economy Cemetery. Therefore someone ordered this stone between 1903-1970 and placed it at Economy. The 1775 usually is the death date, but could designate the war date. Since the Economy Cemetery was established around 1840, Sarah Malinda Landrum is not likely to be buried here. Last, which James Landrum was she married to? James Landrum and Mary Alford were not married till 1787. Could Sarah have been the first wife of James? You are welcome to share any of these thoughts. I just found it fascinating.

For your info Elizabeth "Betsy" Landrum married William Crosby March 15, 1806 in Greene County TN. I believe she is the daughter of James and Mary Alford. William died in 1817 and left a will with James Landrum as one of his 3 executors. Elizabeths last know location was in Jefferson County in the 1850 census. She moved from Greene County to Jefferson County sometime between the 1930 and 1840 ceneus. She could very well be buried in Economy cemetery.

You can request these be almost automatically added by using the "edit" tab near the top right hand side of her memorial.
