Bio and Links
Bio Photo Air Force brat, music critic at the Shreveport Times 1977-1991, military reporter there 1992-2012, local desk editor 2012-13 and from August through the end of October 2015 editorial page editor, at which time retired from Gannett. Now public information officer for the Caddo Parish Coroner and the Caddo Parish District Attorney. Co-author of a history of Barksdale Air Force Base and a book on legendary locals of Shreveport. Interest in genealogy since 1990, willing to visit Northwest Louisiana cemeteries. Fascinated by the stories of those in them, cognizant that people only pass from memory if we let them.

Unless there are historical or sentimental or research reasons disinclining me, I will transfer memorials upon request to children or grandchildren of those memorialized. More distant relationships will not guarantee transfer and are decided on a case-by-case basis. I post news stories and obits associated with the deaths with the permission of the publication unless the item is 75 years old or older and thus free from copyright. I am not responsible for the manner of death of a loved one -- suicide or murder for example -- or the public attention it may have garnered at the time. You cannot change history; it changes us.

RE: Robin Rothrock birthplace
Robin's brother and sister also graduated from SHS. I don't think they've found the group, yet. Robin is fondly remembered. Two of the comments on her tribute:

1) I remember Robin as a cheery spirit who always had a good word for everyone! I'm inspired by her personal story, which I didn't know about until I read her obituary. She really made something out of her life!

2) I use to babysit her son when I was in high school. She was an awesome Mom and woman.

The tribute includes a link to this story about Robin: Robin “Rocket Woman” Rothrock, R.I.P.. I didn't not have the honor of knowing Robin, as I attended SHS from 1972 to 1974.

RE: Robin Rothrock birthplace
Thank you for following up with me. Robin graduated from Satellite High School in 1968. In the back of the yearbook, it does indeed state that she was born in San Antonio, Texas. I took my information from the Texas birth record:

Name Robin Lee Heckendorf
Date of Birth 17 Jun 1950
Gender Female
Birth County Tom Green
Father's Name Marvin Henry Heckendorf
Mother's Name Alberta Ellen Fletcher
Roll number 1950_0006

Perhaps, when the birth record was recorded the clerk confused San Angelo in Tom Green County with San Antonio in Bexar County and entered the wrong county.

Also, if you know Robin's son, please let him know Robin has a memorial tribute at the Scorps in Heaven group on Facebook.

RE: Lt Karl Armstrong Jr.
I knew your name looked familiar. I know that Captain Wagner's son has done a lot of research as you have as well. This accident killed my family. Sonny was my Aunt's childhood sweetheart. They were perfect and no one would tell my Aunt or my family anything. I had asked Captain Wagner's son about information and he wondered why I had not asked about the accident before now. I told him because no one would talk about it. It was too painful. I spoke to my Daddy about it before he died and he told me that my Aunt sat in limbo for 9 months not knowing. He said it was the worst part of his life as well as his Daddy being killed in a car accident from the mayor's daughter hopped up on drugs going through Cisco Texas 90 mph. Any case, I thank you for the memorial. I did have a person checking into the accident but he sort of disappeared. He had found out that they were still considered MIA and the only DC I have is from the Air Force. He said there is back pay and back benefits that are to be paid out. I personally think he wasn't telling the truth. I don't have anyone else to trust to check.
Again, I appreciate everything. It is good to meet you.
Regards, Ms. Meryl Grantham

Thank you for making a memorial to my uncle. There is controversy about the accident. Not lost at Sea like everyone thinks. File is sealed.

I added some photos of my Uncle Karl and also they called him Sonny.

RE: Edward Kamph gravestone
I am so sorry. I cannot find the memorial that you are speaking of. Can you give me the memorial number you are saying I added a photo to? I don't keep the photos I take unless they are my own family. Most of the photos I take are discarded. I can return to the cemetery and take another if you wish. I don't live far from there.

Ok Thanks. The cemetery records and the stone only list her as Fowler and she is buried next to James Fowler I guess her first husband.

RE: Lefty Frizzell photo is gone
Thank you so much John!! I knew you didn't post it, but it wouldn't let me send a message to Wylie B.

You better than anyone knew my Daddy! You have written such wonderful articles about him! He treasured your friendship, as well as my brother, Ben. Ben even said to me, John didn't post that pic. Lol
I told him I know but maybe you could help.

Thank you for your lovely comments on Mama's service. We were so very blessed to have such wonderful and loving parents. And thank you for your longtime caring friendship with our family.

Sincerely, Carolyn
