I am a Registered Nurse for the Marine Corps, originally from Memphis, Tennessee, but have lived in Southern California for many years. My husband is a retired Marine and an Environmental Consultant. My great-grandmother was a Lee descendant from VA, Martha Lee. I have been researching that side of my family for several years. Still trying to find my connection to the General. My gr-gr-grandfather, Alexander Rigdon Lee, was a soldier in the Civil War and present at the surrender of General Robert E. Lee at Appomattox Court House. His father, Edward Lee, was in the War of 1812 and Edward's father, John Lee, was in the Revolution. That's where the line stalls. John's parents and siblings remain a mystery. The search continues.......|

I will delete my memorial, but please be aware that the proper way to go about it is to ask for a transfer from me to you. I do not think the entire information is incorrect ~ it was merely a transcription of the headstone and matched with the information at LancasterHistory.org from the Church Records. What information should I correct at the Historical Society, since I got the information from their database?

No problem. This cemetery is in really bad shape. Many headstones knocked over and lots of trash. Really breaks your heart. James Buchanan 15th president is buried up the hill from your relatives.

Very welcome! Do you know where the headstone you posted is? According to cemetery records, his headstone/marker is Section C, Lot 70 which is where that marker is. I can try to reach the records holder again to get a location of the larger headstone. This area is very overgrown so I'll wait till groundskeeping mows this week and go back again to look.

Glad to help. There are a few other Lee family grave stones near Martha's. I can send them along if you wish. I live very near the Bethel United Methodist Cemetery and am not far from the Slate Ridge and Slateville Cemeteries, if you need any photos or information.

I added the biographical information you supplied. Thanks!

Donna: Sure just send me the information and I can add it. Normally I would offer to transfer ownership of the entry to you, but the entry is part of a larger project, so I don't want to release the entry just yet. Thanks! Nancy

The stones appear to be black slate and do not photograph well. I was luck to find them in that good shape, many of the old stone are broken or really illegible. Glad to have been of help. Donna Jones
