I have been doing genealogy research for over 30 years and it's taught me so much more than just who my ancestors were. I've learned history, geography, population dynamics, how profoundly horrible the Civil War was (as all war is), how to read really bad handwriting, and most of all, patience. It's like being a detective and I love to solve puzzles. I am researching the surnames Olvey/Alvey/Olvy, Wheeler, Williams, Gray, Sale, McBride, Martin, Hicks, Armstrong, Swaim/Swim, Sturdivant, Brown, Sparks. If you spot my mistakes or want to add information on anyone, please let me know at my email address or leave a message. |
I am not one who believes this web site is a numbers competion. If you transfer a memorial to a family member outside the confines of FAG's stated rules, it does not subtract that transfer from your total. And I firmly believe that the vast majority of contributors to this site, do so overwhelmingly to contribute genealogy information. I think the rules for transferring should be changed. If you are simply entering the information from daily obituaries to see how many memorials you can own, and you are not at all related to the deceased, why would you care if someone who is related-in any way-would want to care for that memorial? Why would you refuse them that desire? After all, what you are doing is a voluntary choice, so refusing because it's your time or gas or shoe leather or whatever, it's strictly your choice. And nowhere in the FAG rules does it say it's a competition.

You are welcome. I live in walking distance of this cemetery.

Yes, I'd love any photos you might share of this family and their extended families.
Constant and Jane are my direct ancestors.
|Travis Holt||RE: Meredith Armstrong's marker|
I agree! It's interesting in that there are six of these markers in that cemetery. So far, they are the only ones I've found. They are very safe from being stolen, however! I don't think you could budge one without a tractor!

I like that term, Harrisonian! If it wasn't a word, it is now! Glad to meet you! Hope the photo was satisfactory and thanks for your work on findagrave!

Sir, I'm from Newton County, and I plan on being at the Collins Cemetery before long, where I noticed you had a request for a photo of Meredith Armstrong's grave. I believe his to be one of the stacked rock cairns, and I'd be happy to get a photo for you, but there will be no info visible on it. I didn't want to just rudely upload a picture without asking if that would be acceptable first. If you would, just let me know. Thanks for your work! Have a great day!

You are welcome!
Sorry, but I transferred him before seeing you want additions made.

Edwina--there are others, although they are in extremely poor condition. Most are down or broken, some are just field stones. However, I will be going back in the near future and will see what I can do. Have just buried my father-in-law whom we have spent the last four years caring for, so I am behind. Hope to get caught up as soon as possible. Keep your eye on the website. Martha

Tried to add link for parents. Successfully linked the father, but when I entered memorial number for mother, I got message that the memorial had been deleted.
Let me know if you want me to transfer Petrie and Maynard memorials to you.
