Bio and Links
We are two sisters from Hobbs, NM, just 110 miles south of where Cathey lives in Portales. Karla is almost 7 years younger and lives in the Phoenix AZ area. Karla has had the genealogy bug a lot longer, and she passed it to me in 2001 when I moved here. Our mother, Vera "Coggin" Weldy is the one who turned us on to cemeteries when we were kids. We used to go with her to tour the old, out of the way cemeteries along the two-rut dirt roads of Lea County where many of her family are buried. We love looking at the old beautiful stones, for those that have been there the longest, and the most unusual names. I would gladly make photos of area headstones, but I'm waiting for Santa to bring me a new camera. I've got my fingers crossed so maybe I can help others who live far away to see what the graves of their ancestors look like. Cathey

RE: George Andrew Phillips
George was the brother-in-law of the husband of my 3rd cousin 3x removed. If you would like, I would be happy to turn over this memorial to your care. Just give the word.

RE: Melvina Griffith Coggin
HI! I am always glad to hear from family. I wonder if she even had a middle name but I bet she did but I just looked on findagrave at the headstone picture and there was no middle initial or name on it. This is one more question I wish I had asked somebody while they were still alive but I didn't. DARN! I don't know. I looked on Ancestry and there is no middle name on there either. This will be a good mystery for me to search out. I believe it is something we should always know too. Back then, most of the time the kids carried the mother's Maiden name. Just this morning I was wanting so to know more about Grandpa Coggin's first wife eliza Ann Bush. Nobody has any information on her. Nobody knows where she is buried or anything and as far as I know, I never ever met their child they had together either.

Thelma had a stroke so it might be a while before she can do this. I am Mary, her sister and just making sure I get things answered for her. She is improving though
