DeVault Family history Hi Tracy, I am Karen Walls, granddaughter of Sheila Drew DeVault Qualls, great grand daughter of Robert Drew DeVault, great great grand daughter of Valentine DeVault II. I learned a lot about DeVault history from my grandmother, she left me a lot of artifacts from the family- lots of old family photos and some furniture pieces that had been in the old homeplace there in Johnson City. I remember visiting the house as a child when Elizabeth (my grandmother's cousin) lived there. I also have a copy of the book about the DeVaults telling all the family history and so many interesting stories, particularly about Valentine and my great great grandmother Edna Anne Hannah. I know the homeplace is still standing, but was wondering where the DeVault graveyard was. I visited the area several years ago but could not find anyone to contact about the location of the graveyard. I have lately gotten back into working on my family tree and hope to share some of the photos and stories I have on Ancestry.com. I would love to know if the graveyard could be visited. If you can help me please contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
# 132278047 Valentine DeVault JR. Hi Tracy! Do you know who he belongs to? Parents, that is.I found him researching Civil War Detailed Conscripts and Nitre Contractors of Sullivan County. He was in Company B--boy he had some bucks back before the war as well. I thought all of our DeVaults were covered--unless this is a duplicate memorial.
RE: Nathan and Mary Francis Thanks for getting back to me, Tracy! Yes, I think I do remember exchanging emails with you, right after we bought this place.
I do know how to extract the pictures and I'm so glad to hear that I have permission to do so. We think it will look so awesome when you walk in the front door of the house to see pictures of the original owners.
I will send Janet Donner an email. Perhaps she has more information about the house, possibly a picture! That would be wonderful!
Thanks again for getting back to me so quickly! Take care!
Hello! You don't know me, but my husband and I live in the house that Nathan and Mary began building in 1892 at 220 Main Street in Moweaqua, IL. Last night, we were searching the internet for more information about the house, (and to see if we could find any pictures of Nathan and Mary and/or the house,) and we were so pleasantly surprised to come across this page about Nathan with his picture, as well as Mary's. It's so fascinating to finally be able to put faces with the names of the people who built our home. I'm aware that Mary's father, Mr. Duncan lived with the Francis' at the time of his death and from what I understand, his funeral services were held here in our home. (Kind of eerie, but nonetheless, interesting!) I would like to make a copy of Mary and Nathan's pictures and display them in our foyer. Also, if you have any more information about them or pictures of the house, or know of anyone else that I could talk to, can you please let me know? We are amazed at the hard work that went in to building this beautiful home and would like to know as much as we can to preserve its legacy!! Thanks in advance! I look forward to hearing from you!
Lydia Munson Hi Tracy, I expect that her year of death, is indeed 1904, but I can't tell for certain by the photo that I posted. I will make a note to check it on my next trip to Rock Branch. May not be within the next couple of weeks. But I will see to it that it is correct. For now, I'm going to change the date. Thanks, Loretta
