Bio and Links
Bio Photo I've been researching my family since I was a teenager. Of course, my family lines have been little researched so it makes the work a little more challenging. But I like a good challenge. I volunteer to take pictures for Find A Grave in Fredericksburg City, Spotsylvania Co., King George Co., Caroline County, Stafford Co. and where else I go. My family surnames are: Reed (Reid, Read), Sells, Ashton, Smith, Greene, Roush, Bottorff, Sissell (Cecil), Sayres, Luker, DeHaven, Reading, etc. I research all the family lines. My family tree begins in Loudoun Co. Virginia. From there they moved to Ohio (Guernsey Co., Washington Co., Muskingum Co., Noble Co.). At this point 2 brothers leave Ohio when Oklahoma opens up to settlers (El Reno, OK). One of the brothers leaves Oklahoma and moves to Springfield, MO (Green Co.) and then finally staying in Howell Co., MO until death. According to one of the old history books, the Smith line was from Chester Co., PA. I found members of one line in Allegheny Co., PA and from there they went to Washington Co., OH. One Smith line moved to Grant Co., WVa and they died there. I have found documents (birth, death, marriage, & passenger lists) for the John Reading family. That line was originally from Wales. Still working on the rest especially the Ashton line.

Please don't accept the edit for linking him to a spouse. I made a mistake!

I haven't any idea. It could have been done by Find A Grave administrators.

RE: John Marquis
Leslyn -

Greetings and best wishes.

Many thanks for your message regarding cemeteries at Sharon in Noble County, Ohio.

Old Sharon Cemetery is next to the Presbyterian Church, is enclosed by a low stone wall, and contains the graves of some of the earliest residents of the Sharon area.

New Sharon Cemetery is on the other side of the road or highway, is considerably larger and newer, and tends to contain more recent burials.

When I visited a few years ago, I was never in doubt as to which was which.

Therefore, when I noticed on Find-a-Grave that John Marquis has a virtual memorial in BOTH cemeteries, I figured someone unfamiliar with the actual layout must have created one or the other.

One of the memorials MUST be redundant. But which? My guess is that John Marquis "belongs" in Old Sharon Cemetery based on his date of death. But I don't know the exact date when the New Sharon Cemetery was put into service. Place of burial may also have depended on whether one was active in the church.

So I requested a photo of each tombstone, figuring that might resolve the mystery.

All the best.

Cheers, - Mike Kagay

Thank you for creating his memorial. May I include a copy of your gravestone photo in my tree at Ancestry? I will list you as the photographer. Thank you.
