Family history and cemeteries have been a fascination of mine many years. There was a small cemetery across the road from land my grandfather homesteaded in Kansas with graves with our family name. 'Dad, who are those people?,' was an early question of mine. |
Then, each Memorial Day, I stayed with my favorite aunt in a nearby town; it had the cemetery of our extended family. We would gather blooms all round her small town as neighbors shared flowers to decorate those graves. I learned about our family and hers as we placed our bouquets at grave sites. Now, many years later there are many more cemeteries where I feel this personal connection.
If you find errors or can add to any memorial I've created or manage, please let me know. Just use the EDIT tab and send your information. If you would like a memorial transferred to you, using F.A.G. guidelines, please use the EDIT tab on the specific memorial and let me know your relationship. I'll have your note AND a link to the memorial you would like to manage. Remember to include your member number.

|Charles Danis||Philip Race|
I'm a descendant of Philip Race, buried in the Tillotson Cemetery in Greene, Chenango Co. NY. Can you tell me the source for the date/place of his marriage to Lois Southard, the date/place of her death, and the date/place of his subsequent marriage to Juana Rubago. I haven't found that info anywhere except on his F-A-G page.

Thank you for the note re: John & Hannah. They are my 6G Grandparents through their son John.
There are now at least 3 memorials for them. The first that you mention, mine, and the third in Quaker Cemetery of Warren Co, VA.
John Painter gave land in 1758 for the Crooked Run Cemetery in Frederick Co., VA. This area is now in Warren Co, VA and is now the Nineveh Presby. Cemetery. So the Quaker Cemetery and Nineveh Cemetery are the same.
www. Geocities.com. "CROOKED RUN Monthly Meeting was located near the village of Nineveh, now in Warren Co., Va., on the main road between Winchester and Front Royal; about 13 miles from the former and 7 from the latter place. A meeting house was built at Crooked Run prior to 1759. A monthly meeting was settled there in 1781-82. The Crooked Run Meeting was laid down in 1810--so few Friends attending. In 1812 selling the house was considered, but it was still held in 1828, though in bad condition. The site is now occupied by the Nineveh Presbyterian Church." Note the plaque photo at this Find a grave cemetery page re John Painter.
I have moved my memorial to this cemetery, and have chosen to leave it up FOR NOW because of the differences between the first memorial and mine, especially regarding the burial place and the parents of John. I will take it down if I find that I am wrong, which is ALWAYS possible.
Any insight that you have on this is welcome. If you would like any other notes I have collected on this couple, contact me by email.
