For almost thirty years I have been involved in genealogy. When my mother died, she left some notes about a few ancestors she had uncovered and hoped I would continue her research. That was the hook-in-the-jaw that changed my life. I only regret that I have missed out on so many years that I could have used. Alas, all those family stories that went in one ear and out the other, and all those family members who took so much information to the grave with them. |
I am, however, thankful for the tools that are now available and for FindAGrave, a platform that I have spent many hours gaining from and contributing to.
If I have created a memorial for your family member, who isn't related to me, and YOU CAN ADD MORE INFORMATION, I will be glad to transfer it to you. However, many have received a transfer/transfers & have never added anything. This isn't fair to kin who may come along later who can do so.
An exception to the above are my Bell, Dodson, & Love ancestors and kin, most of whom have numerous descendants. Much of the information contained in their memorials is the result of many years of tedious research, and as new information comes to light, I would like to be able to make those changes. For these memorials please follow FindAGrave guidelines for transfers.
I will no longer respond to transfer or up-date requests that are sent to me on the Message Board. Requests sent this way many times have errors and often slow things down.
Instructions for ALL REQUESTS for corrections, additional information, or transfers:
1. Go to the memorial page, which has an "Edit" tab located on the upper right side of the memorial.
2. Click on the "Edit" tab, then click on the Suggest a correction or provide additional information link, which opens a message page.
3. Type in your message.
Making a request this way insures that no mistakes are made, because it takes me to the exact memorial.
Thanks for your understanding.

Hi Virginia, I just found your recent post on Dorothy's grave. I am trying to determine if she is my 2x Great Grandfathers younger sister. Some of the info I have found seems to indicate that, but I have no definite proof yet. If you or other Bente relatives would like to discuss, please leave me a message. Thx Mike Kropp

Glad I could help out, Virginia. I always get a great deal of satisfaction helping others with their genealogy. Hope you have a Happy Thanksgiving!

Thank you so very much. So far I have been unable to find his obit. I'd certainly appreciate having it if you do find it.
The sites that used to have it in their archives, such as the Miami News Record lost it during the 10 May 2008 tornado involving Picher, OK, and the Paul Thomas Funeral home lost theirs when their site changed. It may have also been in the Joplin Globe.
If I had it on my site, I lost it when the site was hacked back in 2005. A free obit site I use only had a death notice, which is better than nothing, but sometimes not much. So far, I haven't found it where I can get it via Google or Bing searches.
Thanks again, I appreciate your help, and thank you for being a member of Find A Grave.

Thank you for the transfer. I was hoping you might be a relative.

You are welcome. I enjoy walking the cemeteries. I get my exercise and help someone to trace their family at the same time. I got involved taking pictures of headstones because someone was kind enough to accept my request and photograph a headstone I might not have seen otherwise. So by taking one for you, I'm paying the back and helping others.
Good luck in your search.
|Joan Viney||Willie Douglas Gee|
Willie married Greenberry Bishop 22 April 1870 in Chicot County, Arkansas. Of course, Greenberry died in 1875 and by 1880, Willie and her daughter, Pattie, were living in Anderson County, Texas in the household of her sister and family (Thomas Benton Greenwood) and is listed as W. D. Clanton. She is buried in Athens Cemetery, Henderson County, Texas as Willie, wife of James D. Clanton, but no dates are on the gravestone. Perhaps she decided to keep using the name Clanton since she had a daughter still at home. I found no record to indicate she had divorced Greenberry Bishop.
