I am eighth generation Iowan. My mother's side of the family has been in Iowa since 1839. I have been working on my family history since 1980.|
I began contributing to Find A Grave as a means to record the headstone inscriptions I had transcribed from walking many cemeteries back in the day, mostly Audubon, Cass, Clarke, Madison, Polk and Warren counties in Iowa and mostly relatives. This was before Find A Grave and way before Find A Grave turned into a genealogical site. My parents have also contributed headstone photographs they have taken. My main goal is to preserve what was written on the headstones, to learn about the people and to honor the deceased.
Please contact me by clicking the edit tab on the upper right hand corner of the memorial. I will not add highly detailed information such as census transactions. This data is more suited for sites like Ancestry.com, or your virtual cemetery, etc.
Please use the edit tab to request links. I DO NOT LINK TO UNKNOWN BURIALS.
Find-A-Grave Policy on Transfers
Transfer requests should be for direct relatives within four generations, this would be your siblings, parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents. Keep in mind that the original contributor may also be related to the memorial and may not want to make the transfer.
Please use the edit tab to request transfers. I will then receive a link to the memorial in question.
I have meet so many nice people on Find A Grave.

Hi - my name is Jon Purcell. I am an avid indexer and have been indexing Iowa State Grave Registration records. I uploaded a grave registration. I hope that is okay.

Hi we are cousins through the Van Tassel Line and I would like to thank you for all of the work you have done! I have just recently learned of that part of my family history by doing DNA and the work you have done has helped me immensely!!
Emily Sophia Van Tassel was my 3rd great grandmother I just hadn't ever been told her maiden name lol.
Hope it's ok to add you to my friend's list?!!?

Thank you Karen for taking the time to get me the
picture of Harriet's headstone.
You volunteers are so appreciated. It is getting
hard for me to get to the cemeteries anymore.
