I was born in Marietta, Ohio in 1932 and lived most of my life there. I worked 11 years for the FBI in Washington, DC and then went to work at the Public Debt in Parkersburg, WV. I am retired from the Treasury Department and have since moved to Paris, Tennessee. I enjoy genealogy, crossword puzzles, and do research work at the LDS church in Paris. I have been married 58 years, had four children, two of them are deceased, 8 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren. I enjoy life and count my blessings every day.

Whitney line
Bessie - I found this on Google Books:

"History of Gorham, ME" by Hugh Davis McLellan. If you have not seen this - there is a large chapter concerning the Whitney line. Try to paste the link into your browser. I searched the name Edgecomb - for Rebecca, wife of David and parents of Nathan whose memorial you maintain.

Unfortunately, the ability to convert to text is not available for this particular book. Not sure if you've used Google Books. I did a print screen and emailed it to myself to transcribe later.

Nathan Whitney #32766083
Bessie - I don't think you will mind, but I wanted you to know that I just placed a JPEG of a document on this memorial site. It is a copy of the birth record of Nathan Whitney. I am not a descendant, but my granddaughters are - their other grandmother's maiden name was Whitney. This document shows Nathan was the 7th child of David and Rebecca Whitney.

Dessman Gumm
When adding the link to Dessman's mother as you requested, I found the memorial #113431078 to be someone other than the name you listed. After doing a search I found #115431078 to be the correct number. The link has been added.

Madora A. Six Powell Allen
I see you have a memorial for Madora so I have removed mine. I also see you have already found the info I found on WV Archives. If you want me to add the photo I have of her headstone let me know.
Thanks, Jim

Madora A. Six Powell Allen
Thanks, Jim

I searched WV Archives records for James Powell, M A Powell Allen & David Allen. I found no death record for James Powell or marriage record for Powell and Six.

I did find a marriage of David Allen, age 56, born in Monroe Co., Ohio and living in Slate; and MARY A Poweel, 56, born in Athens County, Ohio and living in Slate. Married April 20, 1917 at the home of the bride. []

I also found the death of MARTHA Ann Allen Nov. 17, 1943. It says she was married, husband David Allen, born June 4, 1860 in Meigs Co., OHio. daughter of A. Sioux and Maranda Shields. She was buried in Merrill Cemetery, Slate. WV Informant signature was David Allen of Slate. (These dates match the dates on the homemade headstone at Merrill Chapel Cemetery near Slate) []

I suspect these are all the same M A ALLEN Powell.

RE: Simon Whitney
Bessie, you manage Simon's memorial. When you are on his memorial page, there should be a place under his name on the left side that says, "Family links: [edit]" on the [edit] and you will be able to add relatives to the memorial. Since you manage this memorial, nobody else can connect family members but you. Nice to hear from you Bessie :-)
