I consider my "roots" from East Tennessee and Bell County, KY. Many of my direct line moved to Monroe, MI as early as 1923 and that is where our line also starts to include the State of Michigan. I've done as much as possible here on Findagrave to preserve our families past, that they will be remembered. I have contacted and visited with those in our line as often as I can and gathered as many of our old family photos as possible and shared them here. There is nothing quite like a photo to bring a person to "life".|
It is sad how often you see an old unmarked photo whose identity is now lost to all time.
My interests with Findagrave have expanded far beyond my family. I love most that it is free for all to share and that it helps to keep the memory of those gone before alive:
Someone once posted a grave memorial here that led me to my Great-Aunts resting place... I hope my work here will do the same for someone else.
THE RECORDING OF A CEMETERY
BY THELMA GREENE REAGAN
Today we walked where others walked
On a lonely, windswept hill;
Today we talked where other cried
For those whose lives are stilled.
Today our hearts were touched
By graves of tiny babies;
Snatched from the arms of loving kin,
In the heartbreak of the ages.
Today we saw where grandparents lay
In the last sleep of their time;
Lying under the trees and clouds -
Their beds kissed by the sun and wind.
Today we wondered about an unmarked spot;
Who lies beneath this hollowed ground?
Was it a babe, child, young or old?
No indication could be found.
Today we saw where Mom and Dad lay.
We had been here once before
On a day we'd all like to forget,
But will remember forever more.
Today we recorded for kith and kin
The graves of ancestors past;
To be preserved for generations hence,
A record that will last.
Cherish it, my friend; preserve it, my friend,
For stones sometimes crumble to dust
And generations of folks yet to come
Will be grateful for your trust.

Thank you so much, I was hoping you were family.
Thank you for all the wonderful photos.
|Sheila Robbins||Robert Owsley|
Hi, Robert's father was, indeed, John Owsley who is buried in Pleasant Point Cem. in Sharp's Chapel, TN, with a Rev. War marker. His mother definitely was not Charity (Barton) Owsley. Robert was one of 4 children John Owsley had with a woman who lived on Indian Ridge in Grainger Co., TN. The story about Robert's and his brother Joseph's being left out of the Bible was speculation by descendants. It wasn't an original family Bible record which we all had thought. It was a Bible page torn out out of the family Bible after John Owsley died. His wife Charity had someone who could write enter the names of her children with John on this Bible
page to send to DC to get John's Rev War pension as his widow. The person began the list of Charity's children--out of order. So that list was scratched out and another list entered below with names of children in birth order. Joseph and Robert and their two sisters were not entered for Charity on her Bible page as they were not her children. Charity was denied the widow's pension because clerks in DC could tell page she submitted was not done as children were born. Merle Sundwall's sister-in-law, Margaret Owsley, is a member of the Owsley Family Historical Society (as were two of Merle's brothers). Bible page and documentation for above were published in OFHS Newsletters--available on cd from the Society. Website: ofhs.org

LEONE V. WESTOVER (nee: Mosher)
While researching yesterday on my Gleason lines in Ontario Canada I ran across the fact a branch ended up in Michigan. That is where I discovered I am connected to the Westover line. I am still working on these lines, however, this morning ran across your Findagrave for Leone.
So far, I have had much difficulty finding an obit or other information about Leone's death. However, and this might be a long shot, a few minutes ago I searched for "Leone" born "1913" and died "1997" at Ancestry and ran across only one match.
Michigan Find A Grave: LEONE V. WESTOVER (DOB: 31 Aug 1913; DOD: 20 Jun 1997)
California Death Index: LEONE VIRGINIA FORMAN (DOB: 31 Aug 1913-Michigan; DOD 20 Jun 1997-Los Angeles)
mother's maiden name: REED <== correct ==> Blanche Fern Reed
father's surname: HENRY <== ? Could this be Weeden H(enry?) Mosher?
Please let me know your thoughts.
