Bio

Researching and documenting my family history and that of my husband's for 40 years.

Family surnames: Snyder / Enright / Duffy / Mackie / Philipps / Callaghan / Conneally / McLaughlin /Quinn / Nolan / Fischli / Tobin / Normile.

I am recording our local Maplewood Cemetery, but it's taking time, as you can imagine. My son recorded Weeks' Cemetery for his Eagle project here in our town also.Glad for edits, corrections, additional info.

You may use my photos without asking permission. No problem at all. Have a blessed day!

Ode to Maplewood Cemetery
By Emily C.A. Snyder, 2014:

There's a stone by my front porch
Shaded by the maple bough
That asks one simple question:
Not who or when – but "Howe?"

Who lies beneath this marker?
When did he pass away?
Was this a him or her—
Or a family of "they?"

What was the man's profession?
If only someone knew--?
But that is now a "Howe,"
And here's no hint of "Who."

What joys, perchance, were hers
That she savoured in her Then,
But How will neither speak of Whom
Much less to answer: "When."

And whom did this Howe love?
Did she accept his solemn vow?
What wars disturbed their slumber,
As their name disturbs me now?

Stranger graves than this
Have laid their secrets bare
Disclosing who and when—
And better yet still!—Where.

"Why" is often hid from me
Although I sometimes guess
And whisper my conjecture
Over those who've gone to rest.

But I am restless, I am restless,
I can't unknit my brow:
As I look out to the Maplewood
And wonder: "Howe, Howe, Howe!"

So here's what I will do
(And they can't stop me anyhow!):
I shall say that they were happy
And it doesn't matter Howe. ________________________________________
