Transfers: I will transfer ownership to direct descendants within four generations - the same as Find A Grave guidelines. Otherwise, I'm happy to add to memorials and make links, just click on the "Edit" tab on the top right of the memorial.|
One line of my ancestors (CROSE) lived in Tippecanoe Co., IN in the 1820s. Some of their cousins lived in the next county to the south, Boone, and some south of that in Hendricks Co. I live in northern Hendricks Co., and am taking photos mostly in Boone and Hendricks, including the older, more difficult to read stones. Hopefully, these photographs will be around longer than the headstones. Many are on the verge of not being readable - even with the sun at a good angle and using tricks to bring out the text.
Since I've been doing genealogy research for a number of years, I can see a real benefit in seeing headstones, rather than relying on a transcription. To me, the important thing is to be able to read the inscription (names & dates, child of ...), but not really the verse below it. It's also important to know who is buried next to who. I'll mention that if I notice a connection.
Cemeteries that are completed - meaning that I photographed everything and have posted all that was readable. Other transcriptions may have more names.

I currently use a 10M Canon Powershot camera which will take pictures at 3648 x 2736 pixels. Normally I reset the resolution to 2272 x 1704 and then on the computer, especially with worn headstones, I turn up the contrast 20-30%, and lower the brightness 5-10% and keep the compression at 98 to 99%. When I started posting for Find a Grave, the photo file size limit was 250 KB, then 350, 500, 750, 2000 3000 and now 8000 KB. I use photo editing software that I downloaded for free - it's much better than what Canon or Olympus gives you with their camera. With Photoscape I know the file size before I save the file.

Marc, I've sent you more than one obit. So far no posting. Are you opposed to doing that?

I would like to have the memorial for my my cousin Emil Charles Barschig transferred to me. His number is 159075095.
I am Nancy Richardson and my number is 46860651.
I am also interested in finding someone to take a photo of his grave. Thanks Nancy
I saw your entry for Frank Doty at ST Michaels Cemetery in Stratford, CT. Frank is my Great Grand Father's Brother, Alfred Doty (also buried in St Michaels). Both are son's of John Doty, who's buried in Lakeview Cemetery, Bridgeport, CT.
Ok, so here's the question. Are you descended from any of these Doty's. I'm at email@example.com

Marc, could you please elaborate a little more on Charles Heck's Find A Grave Memorial? His obituary in the newspaper had all the information. Thank you. jal

Can you add a note for this memorial (Florence Alexander Nelson) that gives her year of birth as 1869? According to her death certificate, the 1870, 1880 and 1900 census records, she was born prior to Nov 1870. She is already 6 months+ on the 1870 (taken in June) and is aged 10 on the 1880 census (also taken in June- she would be 9 if born that year). She gives her year of birth as 1869 on the 1900 census as well. I believe her son most likely got the year wrong when he ordered her stone.

Are you related to Ivan and Ulysses Doty that are buried in the Bradford cemetery?
|John Burdick||Memorial #15927334 - Sophrona Flinn|
Can you tell me where you got the info posted on Find A Grave regarding Sophrona Sudduth Flinn? I am related to this family, but can't reconcile the birthdate on her tombstone and the info on her death certificate with Sophronia Sudduth, wife of James M. Whitman. I had her birth date at Feb. 7, 1836, and in 1850, 1860, 1870 and 1880 census, that seems consistent with her age given. Curious to know if the info on Find a Grave came from an obit, family history, etc.?
John Burdick, Los Angeles
Marc - Thank you for approving the edit that I sent to you linking Josephine Couch to her father, Thomas R. Couch. You mention in her biography that in 1910, she is listed in the census as living with John Frank and Mary E. Hart. Mary Hart was half-sister to Josephine's father, Thomas Couch. Josephine was possibly living with her aunt and uncle due to the illness of her father, who later died of tuberculosis. - Van
