I have posted quite a number of gravestone photos on Findagrave for my ancestors and enjoy hearing from yet-to-be-discovered cousins.|
My most numerous surnames on Findagrave include CRAIN, LAUBENSTINE, LAUBENSTEIN, BEIDELMAN, DILBONE, DORSEY, LINDSAY, JOHNSON, HECKMAN, ROCKEFELLOW, SIMMONS and McCLURE.
Genealogy has been a life-long hobby. I made an exciting discovery in 2009 finding that my paternal grandfather's birth surname was actually LAUBENSTINE and not really LOWE.

Rich, I went to Forest Lawn today and took photos of Thomas and May Howe's headstone. The Stengel and Lowe headstones that are in Section 25 are all under a foot of snow, so it will probably be another month before I can get photos of those stones. The good news is I know right where they are and can find them easily.
|Larry Dean Sturgeon||Sturgeon/Crain|
Rich - I do apologize. I just saw your post from 2011 today. Yes, my Ancestry is from the original Samuel Sturgeon who migrated to Philadelphia from Ireland around 1720/1730. Depending on what you read and from whom. Sturgeon from Ireland to Pennsylvania to Kentucky and then Indiana. If you wish to share please contact me at larrydsturgeon at hotmail.com Thank you. Always enjoy sharing what I have collected.

They are yours to do with as you wish...I don't need credit just enjoy them and God Bless!
|Jim L Wilson||Distant Cousin|
If you are a descendant of Samuel and Eleanor (Wilson) Lindsey, I think we are distant cousins.

Who would the "Mary Crain" be on Jean's tombstone? I am assuming it is a family member but I am not able to look at Ireland births to see if Jean had a sister named Mary. And I don't see that she had a daughter named Mary. Do you know?
|CindyS||Mary Jane Whitmore Johnson|
Hi Rich - Thank you for the updates on the Whitemore/Johnson family. It makes sense now why I could not find the complete birth/death dates. I see you had already added their son Wilmer so I deleted mine so you will have to do the parents links. Take care - Cindy

|Larry Hallstrom||RE: Jane Black Johnston Markle|
Sorry, but I have no information on the parents for Jane Black Johnston.
My research was for the Markle family.
|Jeanie Brown||RE: Gettysburg Cemetery|
I just viewed Dorsey Cemetery photo - that idea probably has saved the gravemarkers for posterity and in so doing has lost the graves themselves. Perhaps the lesser of the two evils of lost markers AND lost grave locations.
My BARR family are scattered from Indiana Co., PA to Preble Co., OH & on into several areas in Iowa, finally coming to rest in Riverton, WY. Following their paths via the old cemeteries and graveyards is a way of reaching out and touching their lives. Something material and solid to reaffirm their existence and their travels.
As heartbreaking as it is, the photos you have posted send a strong message. If just one person confronts this issue because of your photos, then your job has been done.
|Jeanie Brown||Gettysburg Cemtery 'stone pile'|
I have to say, the photo of the gravestones all piled up in Gettysburg Cemetery is distressing.
Especially since I see several names that mean something to me.
Can you explain how this jumble was created and why?
Perhaps old stones which were broken and replaced?
Gavin/Gawin Johnston/Johnson; Christopher Barr; Morrow.....?what is going on?
