Regarding transfers: PLEASE read Find A Grave's policy on transfers before you ask for a memorial to be transferred. We have found several memorials transferred to someone claiming to be a relative only to find nothing done with updating, or adding pertinent information. You can add photos. We do what we do because we believe in "paying it forward " with respect to our work with others who are also researching their ancestry.

We have listed most of the graves in this large public cemetery, which, if math serves, may contain at least and very possibly more than 12,800 burials. Recent burials (less than 50 years old) are added only by request of family members. The 'death' dates for people may be their burial dates. We are working off an old data base which gives the burial date of the deceased up until the 1970's.

Multnomah Park Cemetery was platted in 1886 and the first burial was made in 1888. The cemetery was incorporated in the Town of Lents, and operated by a Board of Directors until 1914 when John and Emma Dorsey took over operations. John died in 1919 and Emma managed the cemetery until 1943 when it was deeded to Multnomah County. In 1994, Metro Regional Government was formed and took over operations.

As with many previously privately-held cemeteries, old records are often unreliable and entries into original record books are often illegible. Keep in mind also that many burials between 1900 and 1918 do not have locations because their grave was reused later. It was not uncommon for the remains of indigent persons to share a common grave.

We have added some interments to the Multnomah Park Cemetery online Find-A-Grave database even though they do not appear in the online Metro Pioneer cemeteries database. We have done so because their death certificate and/or Oregonian funeral notice indicates they were buried there. The burial location will be noted as: "unknown - does not appear in cemetery records."

As larger and newer cemeteries opened for burials, some families opted to have the remains of their loved ones transferred. We have discovered burial transfers to the following cemeteries:

Lincoln Memorial (Formerly Mt. Scott Park Cemetery)
Riverview Cemetery
Rose City Cemetery
Portland Memorial Crematory and Mausoleum
Riverview Abbey Mausoleum

As this project is ongoing (and will no doubt always be so) new information will be added as acquired.
