Bio and Links
Bio Photo I am an avid amateur genealogist, researching many different lines for both family and friends. I include all collateral lines, so my area of interest is extensive.

I have added many memorials in the hope of helping a fellow researcher. Permission is granted for personal use of any of the photos I have added, please just cite the F.A.G. memorial number and cite me as the photographer. This includes - it's so disappointing to look at a public family tree and find one of my photographs without mention of the photographer.

I decline to give permission to use my photos for resale, for profit, or to upload to a different web site. Do not copy them to other grave related sites such as

Since you are creating a record of the cemetery in addition to photographing a single stone you should take several images of the same marker. For example:

1. One showing the whole cemetery.

2. Shoot an image that includes the closest stones and provides context.

3. Photograph the whole gravestone so that inscription and carving are visible.

4. Make sure to take at least one picture where the inscription fills the camera frame.

Unless you are extremely lucky, most of the stones you want to photograph will not be straight due to ground settling. In the case of leaning stones, tilting the camera should eliminate the slant."

Our greatest treasure is our family, not only the warm circle around the Christmas tree, but all those whose lives gave us life, and those who will carry our love into the future. ~ Anonymous

It avails not, neither time or place—distance avails not;
I am with you, you men and women of a generation, or ever so
many generations hence;
I project myself—also I return—I am with you, and know how it is.

Just as you feel when you look on the river and sky, so I felt;
Just as any of you is one of a living crowd, I was one of a crowd;
Just as you are refresh'd by the gladness of the river and the bright flow,
I was refresh'd... ~ "Crossing Brooklyn Ferry" by Walt Whitman

Perform, then, this one act of remembrance before this Day passes - Remember there is an army of defense and advance that never dies and never surrenders, but is increasingly recruited from the eternal sources of the American spirit and from the generations of American youth. -W.J. Cameron

For death is no more than a turning of us over from time to eternity. ~William Penn

Those we hold closest to our hearts never truly leave us. They live on in the kindness they have shared and the love they brought into our lives. -Author Unknown

Perhaps they are not stars in the sky, but rather openings where our loved ones shine down to let us know they are happy. -Anonymous

Gray photo request in Marysville Cemetery
The Historic Marysville Cemetery in Marysville, Yuba County CA has many Gray's buried in it, but those who have headstones (not many) are already in the Gray listing. The information for each of the Gray's needs to be updated and I have a list buried in my pile of, "to do", that I will bring to the front and get to those edits, so I hope I can provide more information and I will add more Gray names that are not yet listed in the Marysville cemetery, but they will not have headstones. I am one of a group of volunteers that work in the cemetery and this cemetery has seen many floods since 1851 when it was started, damage to headstones has been in high numbers throughout the years.
So hope this will help, please check back in the Marysville Cemetery and I hope to have the edits done this week.

Thank you for sponsoring two memorials of veterns from the Spanish-American war. I try to put Vets on find a grave whether they are related or not. When I go out for a request or for my own I will take photos of Vets graves and then either add the photo to the existing memorial or add a memorial. Thanks so much for your caring attitude towards our past vets.

Greetings, I am trying to fulfill a recent photo request for memorial# 135108114

Grave: I Lot: 41 Block: 9 is indeed the correct plot information, except the cemetery database also indicates that there is no headstone. The grave is unmarked, but I do know pretty well where grave I is located in lot 41 and could submit a photo of what is seen between the other graves around it. I don't think it's appropriate for me to do sowithout prior approval. I would send it to you though to do with as you wish, IF you are a direct relative.

Please advise.

Silas Henry Best
Could you please recheck and correct the death date that you have listed for Silas Henry Best (#39491031) in Cascade Cemetery in Nelson, Buffalo, Wisconsin? Although the date you have listed for his death is 11 June 1903, the photograph of the headstone clearly shows the date as 10 May 1903. Interestingly, the Wisconsin Deaths has the date of his death as 12 May 1903.

Thank you for all of your contributions to Find A Grave. ~ Sandy
