"Dear Ancestor,

Your tombstone stands among the rest;
Neglected and alone.
The name and date are chiseled out,
On polished, marbled stone.

It reaches out to all who care...
It is too late to mourn.
You did not know that I exist,
You died and I was born.

Yet each of us are cells of you,
In flesh, in blood, in bone.
Our blood contracts and beats a pulse
Entirely not our own.

Dear Ancestor, the place you filled
One hundred years ago,
Spreads out among the ones you left
Who would have loved you so.

I wonder if you lived and loved,
I wonder if you knew
That someday I would find this spot
And come visit you."

(This poem was written in 1906 by Walter Butler Palmer)

I work hard to get my information as accurate as possible and am thankful when other contributors do the same. I generally don't enter information such as inscriptions that are easily readable from the picture (why by redundant?), but I'm happy to make any corrections needed. Just please use the "Edit" tab on the memorial. It's easier to manage the emails that way. Thanks!

Photo's: Please feel free to make copies of the photo's that I have taken and posted here. I do ask that if you post them to other websites please give me credit for taking them as a courtesy.

Mary Roche, Calvary Cemetery
Thank you so much for taking a picture of the site! When I went to New York and visited the cemetery last year, I was unable to find a headstone. The memorial on her page was created in 2012 with tombstone-type information, so the following year I was surprised to find there is no headstone. Thank you for taking the time to find the area. I'm happy to know I'm not crazy for not finding it. And I'm happy that even without a headstone to mark her final resting place, she is not forgotten there. Thanks again!

I must say how thankful I am for the picture you took for me. I was so sad to see no headstone there. I was expecting to see one, since there are 3 people in the grave. Oh well. I want to thank you very very much. I appreciate you taking your valuable time for me. Have a great day.

Add a photo
Thank you for taking the photo for grave #127843104. Could you add the same photo to graves #128430031 & 128430205? Until I saw your photo I did not realize that they were on the same tombstone. I just created the memorial page for them and want to make sure you get credit for the photo. Thanks.

Thank you for taking a photo of Helen's gravesite. Even though there was no headstone, it was very sweet of you to take a lovely picture of her spot. She was my aunt and died at 15 days old. God bless.

Thank you so much for providing the photo and Civil War service information for my 3rd great-grandfather. What a great surprise for my family.

Would it be okay if I use your photo on James's entry on ancestry.com, with the proper credit to you and this website.

Thanks again,
Eileen

Did you notice what is on the stone in front of the Williams? I can see just the top of another stone.
