I have lived in Preble county, Ohio all my life. I love history and this area is rich in it. I grew up running around the historical society and all the wonderful people there instilled a love of history. I'm currently trying to find more info on the veterans buried in the county. Any info is greatly appreciated!|
If you find that I have wrong info on any memorial I have contributed then please click the edit link at the top right of the page. It may take a few days but I'm more than happy to change it. If you would like me to transfer a memorial to you, please use the edit link to ask. You must define a specific relationship. Not just "I knew the person". If I find the reasoning or relationship good enough, then the memorial is yours.
PLEASE DO NOT PLACE BIO INFORMATION IN THE MEMORIAL FLOWERS!! IF U SEND IT TO ME IN THE EDIT TAB I WILL HAPPILY PLACE IT IN THE PROPER SPACE!
Also, please bear with me as my Cholera cemeteries and Veterans cemeteries are works in progress. I am currently going through Preble County's Veterans WPA files and it a long process, as there are over 12,000 veterans buried in our county. Please also feel free to use any photo or memorial I have created in your family histories. Thank you!

Good Day Dear History Buff!
My message to you is 2 fold. I first must thank you for your volunteer hours on this web site! You are indeed helping many of us locate the interment sites of souls who's memorials would other wise be lost in time. You are a very kind person to also share any photos and grant permission in advance. Very productive!
My 2nd 1/2 is to ask your help with the 2 memorials you added back in 2014, as I am pretty sure: # 134656962 and # 134657049 are the same body, and this gentleman was actually already in FindAGrave.com back in 2008, added by Digger4Genealogy as memorial # 24425626.
The only way I came onto this, was as I was helping someone with their 'Aydelott' family branches in Ancestry.com and can understand the confusion (believe me). This soul is documented with his first name & later with his middle name:
Isaac Newton Aydelotte b.1847 & d.1910; [ & Im guessing there was no stone marker, as none of the 3 memorials created have a photo]. No worries, I guess, but you sounded like one who really cares about this hobby, and Ive not come accross a matter like this before and felt I should share. Meanwhile, happy headstone hunting! (and sincerely, thank you for all that you are doing for us miles and miles away from these interment resting sites!

I came across your memoral on samuel Johnson (Find A Grave Memorial# 107493672) You state that he was a Civil War soldier. Do you know what regiment he served in?

As previously noted, this is an incomplete duplicate listing of Martin Beam. Suggest you erase this one.

I own Abram and Sarah Brower's Bible with Rachel Brower's date of birth and death. Her DOB is 1/3/1826, and DOD is 1/3/1845.

I am requesting the transfer of my 3g-grandfather's Find A Grave memorial #109513373, for Rev. Samuel Leander Westerfield. This Find A Grave memorial has many errors in it as currently written and some of these errors were inadvertently caused by me. Numerous attempt to send corrections to this Find A Grave memorial, which you manage, have for whatever reason been ignored for the past six months. It appears that you have intentionally chosen not to make all of the submitted corrections (other than the two erroneous corrections which I had submitted about a year ago). Your failure to "manage" my 3g-grandfather's Find A Grave memorial properly (or to even contact me for more information) has forced me to create another "accurate" Find A Grave memorial for my 3g-grandfather, Rev. Samuel Leander Westerfield, Find A Grave #140685559. If you should transfer this memorial to me, please know that it is my intention to correct and keep his original Find A Grave memorial which you currently manage.
Please note that I have contacted Preble County several times this past year due to errors in County records regarding Rev. Samuel Leander Westerfield. I sent the Preble County Genealogy an email explaining my relationship and have even talked with them on the phone. I explained all of the information I had researched on Rev. Samuel Leander Westerfield and that some of their old records were not accurate. Prior to me contacting Preble County, it seems that Preble County records revealed only that he was Samuel Westerfield who died at age 71 in "1932". Thankfully, Preble County had recorded the age correctly, 71 years, as it was key to identifying who is actually buried there. I have repeatedly informed Preble County Genealogy and the person who manages the index for the Old Infirmary Cemetery (now called Preble County Home Cemetery) that he actually died on December 8, 1832 and their records are erroneous by 100 years! This error was obviously due to very poor record keeping back then.
On December 8, 1832, Rev. Samuel Leander Westerfield was a very ill patient at the Preble County Infirmary in Eaton, Preble, Ohio. He died on that very same day. He was buried in their Infirmary Cemetery, now called Preble County Home Cemetery.
It took me quite a while to actually locate his burial location due to inaccurate family information and poorly managed County records. After Samuel died, his family was moved to Knoxville, Knox, Illinois to live with Rev. Peter J. Westerfield (Samuel's son).
I am once again requesting that you please transfer his Find A Grave memorial to me so that it can be accurately and respectfully corrected.

Rev. Samuel Leander Westerfield Jr.
My name is Gary Stanford and I am distantly related to Rev. Samuel Leander Westerfield (1760-1832). Recently, you posted an old Find A Grave memorial for Rev. Samuel Leander Westerfield Jr., #109513373, which has numerous errors in it.
I have had a Find A Grave memorial posted for Rev. Samuel Leander Westerfield posted since late 2014 which is most accurate (#140685559). I have contacted Preble County, Library TWICE to get the posted information corrected for this family member (as I know the records are filled with errors).
First, please allow me to point out that he was not a "Jr." at all. His parents were Jacobus Westervelt and Maria Demaree. Secondly, do you know anyone who lives to be 162 years old? Also, please look at the time his supposed siblings were born (1830, etc....). this man was born in 1760 and died in Eaton, Preble, Ohio in 1832! His parents are both wrong as well (they were born after him according to what you posted).
Please review the information I have posted on Find A Grave memorial #140685559 and correctly update your records accordingly. Your Find A Grave memorial for Rev. Samuel Leander Westerfield (1760-1832) is terribly inaccurate. I will gladly help you as I have studied this man (and his family) for many years as my mother was born a Westerfield. Shortly after Rev. Samuel Leander Westerfield died in 1832, his wife, Catherine Monfort Westerfield and others, relocated to Knoxville, Knox, Illinois to live with her son, Rev. Peter J. Westerfield.
I would very much like for us to please work together for the sake of my family to create a very accurate memorial for Rev. Samuel Leander Westerfield (1760-1832). I can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org and please feel free to contact me anytime so we may work together to resolve these errors.
Thank you for your time and assistance,

I've photographed the stone which actually has the name Wilson Doan on it. There is one form with Nelson Doran,s name, a National Cemetery Interment Control Forms. That form would have been typed after 1928. I've found several documents on Wilson Doan including his U.S., Civil War Soldier Records and Profiles. Both names share the same state, date of death and original place of burial before being moved to Camp Nelson National Cemetery. I'm going to type up a genealogy and put each as an aka for the other. That way anyone that might be looking for Nelson Doran can research the other possible relatives. Thanks.
