Bio and Links
Bio Photo If you know of any one memorialized here who served aboard the USS Melvin DD-680 in the Pacific Theatre during WW II, please let me know.

I'm a transplanted New Englander. My parents are Paul Oscar Avery(1921-2003) and Betty Wheaton Avery(1925-1992). My mom's and aunt's interest in family history was passed to me. I have been doing family history research for over 25 years, most of which has been in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Maine.

I am retired, and live in The Villages, Florida, and would be happy to find and photograph cemetery stones of your friends or family in the Sumter - Lake - Marion County area.

If you find some pictures or monuments I haven't included, I'd love to hear from you when you post them. And corrections or additions to my postings are welcome. All suggestions are responded to within 48 hours unless I am out of town. If you supply me with additional information, I will always research and double check it before posting it to a memorial. There is simply too much inaccurate information out there.

I have completed projects on all cemeteries in Hawley, Buckland, Colrain, and Charlemont, Massachusetts. And another in Sears Cemetery in Barnstable County. Current projects include the Jenks Family in Rhode Island, the Groton Avery Family, and Shelburne, Franklin Co, Mass cemeteries. If any of my entries connects to your ancestors, let me know.

Please use the EDIT button on the memorial to initiate correspondence and recommend updates. I am no longer able to respond to emails that do not provide quick and easy access to the memorial in question. Also, if your e-mail is not provided on your profile page, I won't be able to respond to you if a response is needed. The public messages are not appropriate for back and forth discussion.

There are so many "orphan" memorials here on Find-A-Grave, many of which have been posted en masse and then forgotten. So many need identification and linking so we know who they were! After posting a memorial, please take the time to research, identify, and link the memorial properly..... it will go along way toward further establishing the credibility of this site.

Regarding transfers outside guidelines..... I will consider transfer to those who have a proven track record of collaboration on FindAGrave.

Lydia Avery Roach
Hi Kevin -

I made the edits that you requested with a small exception. Technically Lydia Avery was born in North Groton also known as Groton and North Groton Parish. At the time of her birth Ledyard didn't exist.

BTW - I live on Avery Hill Rd within walking distance of the Christopher Avery and Avery Stoddard Cemeteries.

I made the edits and link. I think you are correct about Prudence as well.

RE: Prudence Avery
I wouldn't mind at all. I am confident that she is where Hale says she is. Can you let me know when you add her memorial. I want to add links to her children with Morgan.

Joseph Morgan
Hi Kevin,

I added the parental links for Joseph Morgan 123665516. You are correct that he was the son of Capt. Joseph Morgan and Dorothy Avery. My source document was "James Morgan and His Descendants A Morgan family Genealogy."

I believe that Prudence Morgan is buried in the Avery Morgan cemetery in Groton. Charles Hale transcribed her headstone when he catalogued the CT cemeteries. His entry reads Avery, Prudence relict of Elijah d. Nov 20 1809 age 77. It is in Volume 18 pg 98 of the Hale Collection.

I could find no memorial for her on Find A Grave but I have found Hale's work to be fairly reliable. The ancient section of this cemetery has many sandstone headstones and many are in very bad condition. My guess is that her stone is no longer readable.

Joseph B. Morgan # 63074634
Hi Cousin Kevin,

The edit you sent is to remove the B. from his name and add the suffix II. Another cousin says he's Joseph Morgan III and his father is Joseph B. Morgan, Jr. I can approve the edit if you're sure and care enough to add some documentation. I think the name and dates would be enough. Are you sure the B. middle initial is wrong? My head spins!

Thanks and best regards,
Wade Davis
