State of NY, but the snowy shores of Lake Erie. Have been Graving for over 25 years and thought I was the only, or one of few who appreciated the historical and memorial importance of cemeteries. So nice to be home. | |

 | RE: Damaged Craig Colony Stones Thanks so much for letting me know of your appreciation for my work! First of all....Thankyou for the info on "The Home For The Friendless" entries. I did a bit of research myself and got bits and pieces but not as complete as your info. Somehow I'de like to add it to my entries along with that picture you might send to me some day. There were many other stones for these ladies but when i went back this summer the grass was too high and the conditions weren't right for taking pictures. Alot of cleaning and trimming would have had to be done to take good pictures. My thoughts on these stones were that these women might be someone's Mother, Aunt, sister or friend. Many were quite old. I was surprised. There were stones for an orphanage nearby as well. I got a few pics there but again the stones were overgrown. I found this in another cemetery as well. I'de like to go back someday......maybe take a picnic lunch and make a project of cleaning the stones......seems a shame how they are being swallowed up like they are......soon to be forgotten.
As far as the Craig Colony Cemetery stones.....I have an extra special spot in my heart for the people buried there since i too have epilepsy and can relate in a minute sense what they suffered through. But worse for them, they sadly lived thier last years there. Many deserted by family.....lost in "The System" I've had people write to tell me of thier stories. Very sad. Check out the memorial page of Wesley Quick to see a picture of a small boy who soon after that picture was taken was sent away to this institution.....I can't even imagine how terrible it must have been for him!!!
Thanks again for writing,
Donna
