Elihu Nathan BRAGG
Hello Vivian,

I'm an "old" genie who did most of my family research before the internet. When the internet came along I would periodically dig out the old hard copy of my pedigree chart and work on some of my brick walls, and that is how I found Elihu. He was my paternal grandmother's uncle.

Did you know that his family nickname was Uncle Higgin. My grandmother had a photo of him in her album that she identified as Uncle Higgin. Finally on the internet I connected with a cousin in TX who had his given name and his nickname. It was so exciting when my cousin and I shared photos of Uncle Higgin. I think my photo is an earlier photo and my cousin had a later photo. but there is no doubt it is the same man.

I always got the impression that he was most beloved by his siblings, nieces and nephews. And it was Uncle Higgin who brought his family back together again.

RE: Elihu Bragg
Oh, I was hoping you knew something about any of them but especially Nancy Bragg Clark. Someone put on my ancestry tree that this line of Braggs are related to Gen Braxton Bragg, but I don't think so. I've never found any connection, but I was glad to see you'd written the names of the parents, James and Sarah, so I now know that is correct.

Hello Vivian,

I thank you for the information on Elihu. I have sent an "edit" to the contributor who created his memorial. they have not updated his memorial as yet with his date of birth and death.

Have you any information on his sister, Nancy Bragg Clark? I think she died in the 20's in Omaha, Ne, but not sure and I do not know where she is buried. She is really a mystery to the Clark family.

Would you happen to know if Elihu Bragg's parents were James and Sarah Bragg? I find in the 1860 US Fed Census, a name of Elias N, same age as Elihu, born same place, Ill. It's possible the census taker misspelled that first name, as it often happens. If so, he is the brother of my husband's grt-grt grandmother, Nancy Bragg Clark. And, if you might have any information on Nancy Bragg, I would appreciate reading it. She took her last born, a dtr, and deserted the Clark family, and we cannot find whatever happened to her.

thanks, Mary #47079221

I have it that he was born on 2 Jan 1847. In the 1910 census, it shows he is living in Kearney, NE, is a sextant for the city and is married to Hannah (maiden name unknown). He has a son-in-law, Harry A Rowe living with him and his grandson by the same name. The son-in-law is widowed.

Is your grandfather's father named James Bragg and wife Sarah Hull? If so, he is related to my husband, through a sister, Nancy Bragg, who married William Clark, my husband maternal great-grandfather. I have a tree on, Jacobson Tree. You may view if you like. I am asking because of his "odd" first name. On the 1860 Sullivan, Moultrie Cnty, Ill, he is listed as Elias N. I thought the name was misspelled, but perhaps "Elias" is misspelled.

Please contact me, thank you,
