Bio and Links
Bio Photo Jan Bos is a police officer in his hometown Nijmegen in Holland. He is an amateur World War Two historian to the 82nd Airborne Division and Troop Carriers. The 82nd liberated Nijmegen during the so-called operation Market Garden, starting 17 September 1944. The paratroopers and glidermen from the 82nd Airborne Division could not do their job without the support of the crewmembers of the Troop Carrier transport planes, dropping the paratroopers and towing the CG-4A Waco gliders.

Am a member of the Historical Section of the National Liberation Museum in Groesbeek, Holland. Working on temporary American cemeteries in North Africa and Europe. Am also a member of the Groesbeek Airborne Friends.

Have adopted several graves at Margraten (Holland) and Henri Chapelle (Belgium) Cemeteries.

I have witten a book about the 376th Parachute Field Artillery Battalion, 82nd Airborne Division. The titel is "Circle and the Fields of Little America".

Currently doing research about the invasion of Sicily. D-Day for operation Husky was 10 July 1943. Intend to write a book on the temporary American cemetery GELA on Sicily, where over 1,200 Americans were buried in the 1943-1944 period. The book Will finished in the summer of 2015 (July or August) and Will be available on a DVD. The title:

I am still looking for the men's and women's pictures killed in Sicily during World War Two, all kind of data/reports and pictures of the individual graves of the Gela cemetery. Also pictures of their graves in the United States or in the Sicily Rome and Florence cemeteries in Europe.

Update per 1 September 2013: am still working on the GELA book project, the Index of Names is finished, I have all the names of over 1,200 men and women buried at GELA complete, I know where they were buried then and now, have written several chapters, think four to five chapters still to go (friendly fire, Troop Carriers, 82nd Airborne Division, repatriation), have to buy several pictures and hope to finish the book at the end of the year.

Update 2015 - a friend of mine, Tyler Fox, is proofreading the text. The DVD will be finished July 2015.

JULY 2015 - THEY STAYED BEHIND is finished !!

My DVD Rom (database) is finished per 10 July 2015 (72nd anniversary of operation Husky).

As the people below have said, feel free to use anything in anyway that you wish. If there is a need for anything else let me know as I visit Arlington regularly. As a matter of fact I am heading out there later this morning !

RE: Staff Sergeant William W. McPhail

You can use the obituary any way that you choose and I don't need to be credited.

My mother was a McPhail and had relatives in Illinois and in searching for them, I found the article about William. As far as I can tell, he is not related to me.
