West Norwood Cemetery is over 40 acres and some parts are covered in brambles and completely inaccessible. Ivy covered memorials can be seen sticking up through the undergrowth here and there.|
West Norwood Cemetery has an online database of re-used graves in the cemetery. By 1965 the cemetery was running out of space and started selling off old neglected graves to new owners, until it was ordered that this was illegal and the practice was stopped. If you find your ancestors on the West Norwood Cemetery website, there will be no sign of their graves in the cemetery, and any grave marker on the plot will belong to the new owner.
I strive for accuracy but am not infallible. Errors pointed out to me will be appreciated and corrected with all speed. Additional information is welcome also. Please use the Edit tab > Suggest a Correction on the memorial in question, and include all necessary links.
For all other matters, I can be contacted by a personal message through the forum (link below), or by using the 'Edit' tab on any one of the memorials I have created to 'Send a Correction'.

If you are in the area and find any of my uploads for Civilian War Dead, especially if you photograph them, we are happy to transfer them to you.

I haven't but I can't see that doing so will make any difference. When findagrave introduced the relationship linking option, I ‘warned' them that this could be a problem where there are duplicates and Find A Grave Memorial# 53477365 is a duplicate. As I have already said, I have never seen the point of what findagrave refers to as a Cenotaph [the word is incorrectly applied in this case because it is not an empty grave] or memorial site. Neither stands the test of final disposition which is what findagrave aims are.I can't see what purpose such a memorial site serves.

I see that I raised this before-Added by geoffrey gillon on Jul 14, 2012 9:57 AM
|geoffrey gillon||Hi, Gustav is listed three times on his parents' memorials, and two of the links lead to this memori|
I remember that this one has some history and writing about it. There was a memorial for Gustav showing his surname as that of his parents and pointing out that this was really a dupe because he wasn't buried in England and that he would not have served under a Germanic name with the British and Commonwealth forces.
I did ask Rachel to add her photos to the memorial under my care [Find A Grave Memorial# 56146665]-that memorial has to take precedence because it is at the official point of commemoration, and notwithstanding the creation date appears as….
Originally Created by: CWGC/ABMC
-it was in fact created long before that date. Aug 06, 2010 is the date when Paul Wilson's name had to be expunged from the findagrave site and his name being changed to CWGC/ABMC.
Frankly I have never seen the point of what findagrave refers to as a Cenotaph [the word is incorrectly applied in this case because it is not an empty grave] or memorial site. Neither stands the test of final disposition which is what findagrave aims are.
If we look at the following……..
1 Gustav Adolph Kaye (____ - 1918)*
2 Gustav Adolph Kaye Koenigsfeld (____ - 1918)*
3 Gustav Adolph Kaye (1884 - 1918)*
-the highlighted one, number 2 no longer exists-it having been merged apparently.
Number 1 is the correct one
Number 3 is the one which should be deleted

If this was at Gillingham, then I photographed over 2000 graves at Gillingham years ago-long before I heard of Find A Grave; I did send two CD's to another contributor to upload them all but she soon tired of it, so I was pleasantly surprised to see so many photo requests which I was able to fulfill.
It is a long way from my home but it was lovely to go there every day as it is so well maintained.
The grass in the wargraves area was such that I walked around barefoot lest my shoes should make an imprint!
