Bio and Links
Bio Photo I've been doing genealogy research for people since 1996. I am county coordinator for the MTGenWeb for Butte-Silver Bow County, Anaconda-Deer Lodge County, and Powell County, Montana. I am also a volunteer at the Butte-Silver Bow Archives.

I take photos of gravesites I come across while doing Findagrave requests, and I especially like to take photos of the older headstones and markers to create a record of their existence. Many are getting so old they are not very readable. If anyone finds errors with the information I enter, I will be happy to make corrections. I will also be happy to transfer management to relatives of any of those for whom I have created memorials.

However, please do not copy my photos without first obtaining my written permission to do so. Thank you.

PLEASE NOTE: Photos posted to memorials on Find-a-Grave are copyrighted by the member who submitted the photos. Copying the photo to use elsewhere or on other Findagrave memorials (if more than one name is on the headstone) would be a violation of copyright. You must obtain written permission (emails are generally accepted) from the member to use any photo for your own use. In general if you did not take the photo yourself, you do not hold the copyright to the photo.

For anyone needing more information on their relative(s) who are buried in the Butte, I will be happy to do a search.

Requests can be emailed to me at the email address shown below.

RE: Michael Hanley
Thank you for finding Walter and Illeyne Jaap. Can I get plot location.
About Michael Hanley, born 1840 per 1870 Census, Michigan. Early 1870s more children born Gold Hill, Nevada, Census 1875 living Gold Hill, Nevada. 1880 Census wife listed married, but Michael not listed Gold Hill. 1900 Census wife listed Widow had been married 38 years living Butte. (Found marriage record 1861 Michigan) Thought was--that at least by mid 1890s wife and 2 of their children living in Butte.
Wife, Mary McCarthy/Hanley, is not buried with Michael. Mary and daughter Mary Ann Hanley are buried at St. Mary's Cemetery, Oakland, CA. (The gravesite you photographed of Hazel and Catherine are daughters and sisters).
Michael is the one I really need to find!! I was contacted by DNA connection about 2 weeks ago by a Hanley. We think that the Michael connection probably brother...but have no parent info.
Appreciate the photos. Thanks again, Kathae

RE: James Ambrose Murray
Thank you looks great!! Thank you for cleaning the headstone. I just found Kate's Death Certificate. She was living with her son Jack Murray in Butte. I think the confusion in the register was probably he was involved with moving his father's grave from the Pauper section. In the ledger, it should say James Ambrose Murray (the A. is Ambrose).

I am going to create a memorial for Walter Jaap (buried Holy Cross) and I hope Illeyne Murray/Jaap is discovered (she is the last child I need to find the burial location of James and Catherine Murray).

And then the biggest question is where "Michael Hanley" (Kate's father) born 1840, Ireland, and believed died abt 1898/1899 in Butte--Probably in Pauper's grave. If you should come across Michael's grave, I would really appreciate you letting me know. (I know where is wife, Mary McCarty/Hanley and children are buried). He is the most important missing connection!!!!

Again, thank you for your work!! Kathae

James Ambrose Murray
Suzanne would you attach his headstone photo that you attached as part if Hazel Hanley's photos to James's Find A Grave #170117022. Do I need to post a Photo Request? And can I have permission to use graves pictures?

As mentioned in previous email, cemetery did not have his grave info. Do you have plot info of where located? I am in contact with Murray cousin living in Montana and want to pass on where she could visit grave!!
Thanks, Kathae

Hazel Hanley
Suzanne--Thank

you for the photo. I had just discovered Hazel buried Holy Cross, Montana, not in California. This is a story that makes you feel good to know she got back to Butte and lived with family after her mother and sister died.

I spoke with cemetery about James Ambrose Murray (Find A Grave Memorial #170117022) that his Death Certificate says he was buried there March 1915. He could not find record. If you happen to see his gravesite when you are there, would really appreciate photo.

Again THANK YOU!!!! Kathae

James and Mary McGowan Photo
Suzanne, Thank you so much for making the time and effort to take the picture of James and Mary's grave site. It confirms that they had children that we have not found yet. So your efforts are greatly appreciated.
